Description
The next in a set of mascots I designed for . She's actually the first one I came up with. I consider the kappa to the perfect yokai mascot because of it's ability to embody everything there is to love about yokai and Japanese folklore. It's cute, gross, funny, scary, friendly and menacing all at once. They're a lot of fun to draw for that reason because of the artistic freedom they grant the artist. One of my favorite deviations to exemplify this is kappas by ~pickychicken . Even in Japan, Kappa are used as mascots all the time.

Name: Kawachi
Species: Kappa
Personality: a little shy, Clumsy, cheerful, amiable
Favorite Food: Cucumber sandwiches
Least Favorite Food: lower intestines

For those who don't know yokai (also spelled youkai) are monsters from Japanese folklore. Kappas are a type of yokai typically described as being small, amphibious creatures with webbed hands and feet, the shell of a turtle, and- most notably- small plate on the top of their heads that they must always keep moist. If the plate ever dries up, the kappa will lose all its strength.
