The punchline is Zuko's face in the last panel.Disclaimer: I am usually not a shipper. Cannon couples are great. This is more of a FRIENDshipper. Sokka and Zuko are hilarious together.
I see Sokka and Zuko in the kind of frienship that is 100% platonic, but everyone else thinks they're kind of gay. Think Howard and Raj from The Big Bang Theory.

They are! Zuko balances Sokka's weirdness, and Sokka balances Zuko's angst! It's the perfect match!

Well, no. It's just sort of a joke, it's even got cannon. Leonard's mother claims them to be in an ersatz homosexual marriage (a replacement homosexual marriage; they hang out so much because they can't get a woman), and on her second visit she asked them if they'd proclaimed their hidden homosexual feelings for eachother yet. Howard said no, they didn't have any. Also, Raj's parents once scolded Raj for not having a girlfriend, saying that the closest thing they had to a daughter-in-law was that Jewish Howard boy. None of their friends think they're gay, though.
