Description Something I've been messing with. Digital inking in a rather sketchy manner with painterly colouring.

As it says, it's a work in progress but it's been quite fun so far. Could work nicely for a picture book, maybe.

Let me know what you think...

Oh. You can see the pencils for this image here... [link] [link] And the origins of it here [link]

After looking at this one for a little while I've come to the conclusion that it subconsciously owes in style somehow to this guy...

Being a hairy bloke myself I have to respect that fact.

This is so clean and unique. I love how the smoke trail gives the impression that he not only vaulted but that he flipped while doing the vault. Nice.

Too right. That's what I wanted to imply. Wolverine is not on;y the best at what he does, but he does it in style.

Cheers for your comments, bud. Glad you like it.

I love how he looks so focused, but he still has a cigar in his mouth and he is so loose and agile, loving the Wolverine. And you deserved the fave, no need to thank me for it ;D

CarlPearce In reply to Firebound [2010-03-06 10:36:17 +0000 UTC]

Cheers. I wanted to show that he is very good at what he does and he's been doing it so long that if he wanted to he could cart-wheel over bullets and do it with ease.

I'm 'um'ing and 'ah'ing about maybe finishing this with Cyclops blasting away in from of that explosion, Colossus charging through a car or something on the left side and Banshee or Storm up there in the sky.

Even worse, it's a cigar.

I just love the idea that even leaping, slashing shit up and doing cartwheels, the little nutcase is still not out of breath enough to choke on the smoke.

Sorry. Got my responses mixed up. Duh. I always like seeing other people's work in progress. I'd be interested to see how you set about it, bro.

There is no fixed process with me, just trial and error. It's like I forget how to draw between piccas.

I do at times too. But when there's a lot on it becomes like a production line. Boring...

GhostPockets In reply to CarlPearce [2009-05-20 16:08:29 +0000 UTC]

I remember those days... an actual production line I mean.... memoriesss.....

The difference is with what you do you must still feel pride with what you do, no matter how boring it is.

CarlPearce In reply to GhostPockets [2009-05-20 18:52:00 +0000 UTC]

Nope. Can't say I always do. I just think of the horrible deadlines and the even worse bills that need paying...

I've worked some jobs in my time. Horrible jobs where I either got covered in oil, WD40 or blood guts & shit when I worked in a chicken farm...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GhostPockets In reply to CarlPearce [2009-05-22 15:22:22 +0000 UTC]

I think I understand. The few deadlines I have faced have really stressed me out, just like Stressed Eric. It's this that makes me wonder if I would actually ever want to change my hobby to a job.

I'm unemployed now, and am actually slightly missing the daily grind. Crazy eh?

CarlPearce In reply to GhostPockets [2009-05-22 16:07:54 +0000 UTC]

What happened to Ape Land or whatever it was called? The tree-swing place.

The deadlines are bastards and sending me prematurely grey. Seriously. It's terrible. I'm twenty pissing seven and I'm going all Clooney.

I was working on 7 individual projects yesterday. How I don't go simple baffles even myself.

GhostPockets In reply to CarlPearce [2009-05-23 15:46:37 +0000 UTC]

Didn't get that gig in the end, I think they thought I was too fat and lazy. Well I did turn up to interview in my pajamas and eating a meatball sub. Meh, their loss.

Seven projects??? That is crazytown my friend, I stress enough over one.

Speaking of which, your opinion is a respected here at GhostPockets Industries, fancy greasing your eyes over this and letting me know whatya finks? [link] Just need to work up the courage to letter.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CarlPearce In reply to GhostPockets [2009-05-24 09:29:34 +0000 UTC]

You? Fat? Ha ha ha. I've seen your profile pic on FB and you can't pull that card, mate. I can see how the meatball sub could've pissed on their parade though.

I do over work myself though. Over worked, over stressed and under payed. Hmpf. I hate my job at times.

As for the strips... Well done, mate. They're looking slick and fresh. Lot of work & imagination has obviously gone into them. I'm loving the colours and the narrative dynamic of the layout. I'm also seeing a nice 'Boosh' influence, specially in the first (page 10) image. And that little dude with the blue beard is ACE! Like a smurfed up Jeremy Beadle. Very nice character design!

Thanks for showing me but I really don't know why you hold my opinion in such regard. Ha.

GhostPockets In reply to CarlPearce [2009-05-30 23:21:47 +0000 UTC]

Thankee sir. I value your opinion cos you are so kind and luvverly

I am very much enjoying the Boosh comparison. I love that show and am currently trying to convert Canada to it's genius. My only worry with the strip is that it doesn't read well without the words, I've been told it's hard to follow. But that's what the speech bubbles are for innit Currently struggling to letter this mother, but I will eventually show you the finished beast if you are interested?

Jeremy beadle had a wizened hand.....

CarlPearce In reply to GhostPockets [2009-06-01 09:02:28 +0000 UTC]

Too bloody right, I do. Why ain't these on DA already, anyway?

And it's too true that the speech bubbles are pretty much needed to tell stories so I wouldn't worry too much about it "reading" well. Try turning the sound off on a David Lynch movie. You'd be fucked! Well.

To be honest, that could be said with the sound on, but there we go...

And another thing. Jim Lee's X-Men run from the early 90's!?! What the hell was that? Just a series of poses and action shots with Chris Claremont trying to make up a story around it. That didn't read with or without the speech bubbles and mindless rambling over-exposition.

Keep on going, bud!

Oh, and, go forth brother and convert the heathen colonial masses!!!

GhostPockets In reply to CarlPearce [2009-06-05 07:09:44 +0000 UTC]

I will post them up here when finished in one giant uber-image. I find lettering such a pain in the ass, I keep procrastinating.

Thanks man, any comparison to Lynch is always welcome. Mulholland Drive did blow mine tiny mind. Also, Naomi Watt's tits... lech lech
