Odd how most of Batman's villains mesh well with the Noir world.
Joker, especially.
..but, then again, Batman was originally first published in 1939.
back when Capone Gangsters were a very real, and serious problem.

Yeah, I mean my take here is mostly paying homage to the first couple of years of his publication history. They still every once in a while publish comics that harken back to it a bit, such as one of my favorite books ´Batman: Nine lives´.

'Gotham by Gaslight' invokes a similar aesthetic as well.
I suppose it narrows down to how sometimes "Retro" is cool.
It may also explain why Batman: The Animated Series is so loved,
as it was animated with a Noir feel to it with it's "Art Deco" style.

Which I believe was based on an issue from the 1939 era of Batman comics.
That version of Batman was closer to a similar character called "The Shadow",
a pulp fiction character that was one of a few characters that Batman was based on.
(the other being Zorro, which Batman's origins make reference to with "The Mark of Zorro" film.)

I almost started to hate Joker, i think you can understand, they throw him everywhere. Sir, you have changed my mind.

this is good, but where i think you captured catwoman noir spot on, you didn't capture the madness that is the joker. he's not sinister enough - perhaps a more manic grin for this maniac. '

To be fair, a more subtle approach would reflect the period more accurately. I just find the maniacal nature of the Joker to be delicious when it's dark. Still, your work is wonderful.

This is so cool looking. I like how subtle it is with the slight grin in the shadows, with a nice node to the classic Joker playing card from the start.

Thanks! I think most superheroes have an era that suits them particularly well, for instance; I´m not very interested in Spider-man right now, but set him in the 50s and I´d read that book for sure!! Batman for me is very versatile when it comes to this stuff though, you can make him work in basically any setting.

Bummer, the style of the Joker in this totally fits the Noir era you were going for. Though...it does border a bit on the the Dick Tracy type of goon. That may not be a total bad thing.
