OKAY HOLD UP before you comment on it
YES some of these locations are canon, and do have somewhat canon placements already. If I remember correctly, Abyssinnia is to the West and not the East, which was established in the comics (I think?). But for the sake of my comic, it had to be moved to the southeast to make things a little easier.
Now I don't know if many will like that change, but it was necessary. So don't get your ponuts in a twist. THANK

Again, this map is made for my MLP comic Beyond our Borders, which I've been spending way too much time on. But it's fun, so whatever.
It's an AU of the original show, and you can click Here if you're curious about what it's about. You can also click Here to start reading the prologue and chapter 1.

I'd also like to mention, I had a bit of a discussion with a guy regarding the placements of certain locations. He said that the Himallamas should be moved due to wrongful education for readers and to fit the IRL map of the world better since Equestria itself is based off of America and so on. My reasoning was that it wasn't meant to be educational in any way and was for more mature readers who knew where the IRL Himallayas were on the world map. I did agree to some extent about it not fitting the map of Earth, but there's a reason.
I do have an explanation as to why the locations are a bit jumbled. The multiverse that this AU of Equestria is in is heavily reliant on magic and powers beyond our imagination. Each universe is a copy of the other, which includes Equestria, so it makes sense for cities, landmarks and other highlights to parallel locations in the other universes. However, due to Equestria having such high amounts of magic in it, locations were from the start thrown a bit all over the place due to the instability between the borders of the universes when the Great Divide (Where all universes were cloned) happened. This was, and still remains, the canon reason as to why locations are in the wrong places, which I did fail to disclose when I talked to the person mentioned above. (My mistake, sorry!)
But I did some thinking, and it just made more sense if the Himallamas were moved to Jackalope Slopes, and Jackalope Slopes were moved to the Himallamas, just to fit in a liiiiiittle better. Not exact, but a little better.
Locations like Kouma, Ho Chi Mane and Shanghay are all placed roughly where Asia would be, the Fillyppines are roughly where the phillippines would be, Sydneigh is roughly where Australia and Sydney is, and so on.
Graymourne is roughly where Russia would be, and since the two alicorns Atlas and Aurora (that are FROM Russia as humans) live there, it makes sense!

However, yes, most locations are still jumbled, and just to remind you; IT'S NOT ALL BASED ON THE GEOGRAPHY OF EARTH! Only a few landmarks and locations are! Abyssinnia, Tundra, Kirin Grove, Hoarfrost, Mount Metazoa, Flankfurt, Zebrabwe, Seaddle, Saddle Arabia (just to name a few) and more are all unique and not based on earth-locations (not including the names, of course). Especially Saddle Arabia, because that is literally on the other side of the globe to where it's supposed to be IRL. They're all placed where they are on these maps due to both plot and map reasons. So please don't point it out, it's not meant to be point-blank accurate in any way!

That's my idea, if you cross the Pranceific Ocean from Saddle Arabia you'd eventually end up in Abyssinia, and vice versa.
