well you'd never know from looking at this piece that you haven't drawn in a while. really love the color scheme, and i'm into the steam as well. nice and graphic.

the only thing that struck me as a bit off is the foreshortened arm on the left. it looks a bit stubby. it's easily overlooked though so i wouldn't worry too much about it.

Beautiful work, as always The twisting trees are wonderful and kind of sinister.

Also this is reminding me in advance of the long Canadian winter to come D:

yeah! great effects, love the snow and cool feeling of it all. like others said, i don't think the foreshortening is too successfull on his right arm, it might just need to be repositioned. :3 love this tho, great to see new work from you!

Lovely piece. The line work is fantastic and evocative of Rackham. Plus the guy looks like Adrian Brody.

I really like the composition. The colors take the lead with the white of the snow on one end and the gradient blue on the other. Also the white strokes of the guy's breath present a really nice touch. I can only say that the right arm looks a bit odd, but well, foreshortening is the toughest, coldest bitch I've known, so far

excellent work! :]

Oh, god, that's depressing. But you're totally right, unless there's a house just out of the frame or something.

the arm on the left is too short.
and it tangents with the tree branch.

even if it's foreshortened, you need like a slight tapering of the sleeve. maybe darkening it will push it back, but i still think you should make it longer.

also feels like you'd see a bit more of the back sole of the shoe.

Also, ah...this is really good. I love winter scenes, and this looks like it's straight out of a fairy tale. The whole mood is great, and I love the detail in the man's face.

VimislikArt [2009-09-14 02:04:37 +0000 UTC]

I like it, it's nice, good concept, etc, etc, but one problem: it's not finished yet.

You forgot to render the snow the gets on top of his boot as he steps into it. It's just crisp white coming onto his boot, when it would have a little bit more form to it.

Also, what happened to his right arm? The whole arm of the coat stops where his elbow should be, and there's no indication that maybe he lost his arm (it would be stapled, or tied together in some way, or left loose). It doesn't look like it's bending into anything either.

Looks great, but those are two big problems that are bothering me. Everything else is fantastic, the colors in his face, the design of the trees, the composition of the whole piece is WONDERFUL. It's just those two things...

Please message me if you fix them - I'll be checking out the rest of your gallery.

Oh god... you have like, so many pageviews and favorites...I'm loving your other work...Oh god, why did I try to crit this? I'm going to get swarmed with hate notes. Please everyone, don't hate me.

Hahaha, silly you. Why would people do that if you provide honest, constructive criticism?(I don't see why people sent hate notesat all...) Even the best of artists still have things to learn.

bluefooted In reply to VimislikArt [2009-09-14 02:10:34 +0000 UTC]

It's fine - crits are always welcom. The snow thing is just a stylistic choice. I just like it plain white like that. And his backwards arm does look wrong. I just didn't feel like messing around with it. Too lazy
