I have a question. Aren't Newfoundlands supposed to be black? Or brown... But either way, I've never seen white on one.

Black and white newfs are called Landseers and it is a pretty common colour for them. Newfs can be black, black and white, brown or gray. Here in Canada only blacks or landseers are acceptable in the show ring, no other colours are permitted, although elsewhere in the world other colours are permitted.
