Free WUrble League

Of course we had to have two for the Free Worlds League.  After all it takes Two to Civil War!

As for sources of Inspiration?  Sorry to have to be the one to tell (some of) ya this? But no the FWL is not "Space America".

The cultural Influences of the FWL range from the eastern edges of the Mediterranean (parts of the Middle East/North Africa. etc), to Eastern Europe to India (with tiny pockets of everything else, just like every other Successor State). Being a cultural melting pot doesn't make it Space Murica, especially with the dominant cultures that founded the USA being Western European (England, Germany, France, Ireland, etc). If anything, it'd be like the Ottoman Empire and USSR had a baby.

The whole concept of the FWL is that it's the one that DOESN'T have a modern day direct analog.  English is the lingua franca, but Hindi, Czech, Urdu and others are major dialects. Also Serbian appears to have some presence, judging by a class of warship named Zechetinu.  So. Moving on to the actual influences I pulled from.

I liked both the Serbian and Austro Hungarian nations for sources of helmets, also liked the Maxim Machine Gun, though those were used by almost everyone. Likewise the Czech designed Škoda 15 cm M 14 field gun.

So those formed the basis of my aesthetic add ons.

The first image is of a "rare" UM-r59 Urbanmech, which carried a Machine Gun and ton of ammo in place of the Small Laser and 11th Heat Sink found on the r60 series. I say rare because it's never had a record sheet, though it did at one point have a canon reference. While most of the UMs in service to the FWL are basic UM-r60s, I felt like doing a MG variant.

The second, gaudier version is seen only in the Marik Commonwealth, where all Free Worlders know unfettered spending and debauchery by the Mariks is the norm. This particular specimen comes from the garrison on Atreus itself.

Notable Pilots: Sergeant Major Flora Sandes.
Sandes is notable for several reasons, the first being that she was actually born on New Avalon, but emigrated to the FWL where she joined the FWLM eventually. This was due in part to her family being opposed to her serving and exerting pressure on the AFFS to deny her entry, and in part due to family ties from the FWL.  While initially only allowed non combat assignments, specifically as a Medic, eventually she would prove her loyalty and be allowed to train first in the infantry, then, as a mechwarrior.  She was wounded by a grenade while serving in the infantry and while recuperating from her injuries, took an interest in the mech simulators.  With the issues from her wounding making return to the infantry unlikely, she pushed until she was accepted as a mechwarrior cadet.  Her current assignment is with  the 13th Marik Militia, where she pilots a rare machine gun equipped variant of the Urbanmech.

Force Commander Franz Conrad von Hötzendorf
Von Hötzendorf is notable primarily for his utter incompetence, matched only by the influence his family exerts. He would have been drummed out of the FWLM long ago if his family didn't have so much influence within the Courts of Atreus.  After walking his company into a Liao ambush, where he lost all his machines (but fortunately only one pilot) he was finally "promoted" from Captain to Force Commander, thought he promotion came with an assignment to the Honor Guard on Atreus, where he can be kept as far from combat as possible, yet serve in a position his family cannot complain about.
