Description Neopiscids are not exclusively superpredators; many are in fact herbivores. Pinnitids are a group that have evolved to swim primarily with their flipper-like fins rather than tail, and a few are even able to take to the skies for a limited ammount of time. Nessids have developed a unique body plan among Epimethian ichthiids (respiratory organs shifted to be in front of digestive, rather than above/parallel), giving them their distinctive "long-necked" appearance. Tortoids have a large inflexible body and relatively small swimming surfaces, but they make up for being slow by having armor-like skin covering most of their body. And because all Neopiscids are renowned for their adaptable respiratory systems, virtually all of them are able to swim freely between salt and fresh water.

The tortoid is an excellent design! Are there any giant tortoids?

Yes, a few species grow to be over three meters in diameter.
