Behrfeet In reply to 1Bench [2013-03-06 22:24:37 +0000 UTC]

It was at the Balfour Bay Ferry dock. No ... it was just a really foggy grey day and the Osprey was back lit so with the way it was exposed and with having to brighten up the bird in editing, the background appears white. Why do you ask?

oh ok ...... I took this shot at the same location but this Osprey was on the opposite side of the dock and so had some sidelight and over there you can see the fog in the background starting to break up a bit ..... [link]

I used to see Ospreys feeding thier babies in thier huge nests at my favorite camp in the Adirondack Mountains, but over the past 10 years their numbers have decresed and they've disapeared. So wonderful that you have them where you are! What a beautiful shot, amazing clarity!

Behrfeet In reply to SaintLoon [2010-10-02 03:35:51 +0000 UTC]

you like? I'll let ya in on a little inside info ... it had just stopped raining and was totally overcast with heavy cloud cover so there was NO LIGHT ... add that to the fact he was back lit so I had to start with a very poor image. So as you can probably figure out by now I had to work this image pretty hard to get it to look as good as it does. So don't feel bad if you need to brighten up a shot or two ... I had to do a LOT more than that with this one .... it's all part of the process

Wow! How long did it take you to make it look like this, then?

I've been meaning to ask you, what editing program do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Behrfeet In reply to SaintLoon [2010-10-02 16:27:34 +0000 UTC]

well ... maybe about 30 mins ... unless you count all the years watching videos and constant experimenting in order to know what to do then like 5 years

I shoot mostly RAW now and edit with PS CS4 along with a few plugins for noise and stuff :]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaintLoon In reply to Behrfeet [2010-10-02 18:56:38 +0000 UTC]

It usually takes me about that long to seriously edit one of my pictures, too. But I use Picnik, I dunno if you've heard of it. You have to pay for EVERYTHING on it now (angry face) but there are some cool (free) features.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Behrfeet In reply to SaintLoon [2010-10-02 19:39:08 +0000 UTC]

nope ... never heard of it. I had a quick look at it and it looks pretty basic. Sucks that PS is so freaking expensive but there is a free alternative that has a lot of the same functionality. Check out GIMP ..... [link] ...... it might be what will get you on the road to do what you want with your shots. Its not as good as PS but it's free so you can't complain about that. And I just checked on Youtube and there are a ton of video tutorials to show you how to use a lot of the stuff. Without some sort of training you will be lost .. well ... you are a kid so maybe not ... lol ... but I was and everyone I try to show stuff to is

It allows you to use layers .... A HUGE help ... and has Levels and Curves just like PS. Learn how to use them and the knowledge will transfer over when you get the chance to afford PS

SaintLoon In reply to Behrfeet [2010-10-03 04:42:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've heard of GIMP :3 I'd love to use it, but there's strictly NO downloading aloud of this computer D<

Picnick (or however it's spelt) has tones of awesome features for an online editor, though.

Behrfeet In reply to SaintLoon [2010-10-03 14:10:02 +0000 UTC]

that's REALLY impressive that you are careful and don't risk screwing up your computer. That's a great strategy! I'm the same way. Although it isn't so much about what you download but where you download it from. Most of the software I buy I download ... you know what I mean? And this one of safe ones so maybe if your Ma checked it out she might allow you to get it and start using it?
