Can I know where you got the mane or how to make a large mane stick up like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Beetlecat In reply to PsyrapMafia [2008-06-07 01:58:39 +0000 UTC]

The mane is wefted horsehair. It sticks up because horsehair is pretty thick and stiff - it can be bought at a taxidermy/leather supply store.

I like how you did the mouth.
i've seen a lot of moving jaws, but they all cut unattractively all the way back, sometimes messign up the fur and stuff.. and looks.. bad ><

it looks like you've got the flap of "skin" near the back, though, which makes it look VERY nice.

Wow lovely fursuit. I love the full version but the head up close is a masterpiece. X3 i want to make my own fursuit hopefully next year for school work (we have to take a tech lesson so why not get given half the resources ;3)

i have a question a few questions (if you'd be so nice to help X3) How much did this puppy cost to make, and how long? And also what's the beautiful fur you used?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Beetlecat In reply to Tagcat [2007-11-01 22:13:17 +0000 UTC]

I figure it cost around $400 just in materials. The fur alone cost almost $300. I bought the fur off another artist who had bought it locally, but I buy much of my fur online or (when I can find it) locally.

I'm not sure how long he took in actual working time, but I spent 5 or 6 months building it.

thanks so much :3 its quiet cheep than. i see some sites that make costumes professionally (yours beats the heck outa them) and they sell full body ones off for around $1500. :3 I adore the eyes as well, they are so shiny and nice :3

AlternitiveUniverse In reply to Tagcat [2011-08-27 05:23:50 +0000 UTC]

There's websites that sell these?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Beetlecat In reply to Tagcat [2007-11-02 10:01:58 +0000 UTC]

No, that's $400 in materials only. Calculate in labour and the cost rises significantly. $1500 is right around baseline for a simple fursuit by a decent maker.

Yhea, i did have a thought about labour... yhea that's about right still lovely head.

you are too good. how exactly to the jaws open? some kind of device hidden in the suit?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Beetlecat In reply to Maxrunn [2007-09-21 05:51:17 +0000 UTC]

The bottom jaw is pressed against my own bottom jaw. So it opens when my own jaw opens. Pure mechanical motion.

Omnywrench [2007-08-29 22:07:04 +0000 UTC]

Is that jaw movable? If it is, how did you do it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Beetlecat In reply to Omnywrench [2007-09-21 05:52:34 +0000 UTC]

Movable, yes. It opens when my jaw opens due to the magic of elastics and levers.

wow. what was your method for the teeth?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Beetlecat In reply to cinnibon [2007-09-21 05:49:41 +0000 UTC]

This was actually my first try at using a taxidermy jawset. Normally I sculpt the teeth by hand, but I was curious if using a jewset would be quicker.
