Was shot in the Eilat Mountains area, hard for me to give an exact location it was during military reserve duty. we were maneuvering around the area. was taken January last year after some rainfall and flooding.
The mountains in the region are rich with iron which gives the rock formations a reddish color. the water becomes very rich in minerals, some coming from saline fountains (מעיינות מליחים) and some from the floods, giving the water a strong color which i emphasized with retouching.
go hiking in the desert, always a source for good photos

Thanks! I never seen so much water in Negev before. There is one place when you have some water in the creek, but not as much as here. So Ein Akev, I'll try to find it.

Sure it is a good source for good photos, but also it's a good source for landscape drawings.

I'm looking forward to see your works from Ein-Akev
of course its good for landscape drawings, paintings or any other art form. we photographed it so my "go-to" media was photography on this occasion.
I (Tom) am now getting into the whole digital drawing/painting scene, maybe i'll do a piece based on the desert too

I think it will take a while till I get there, but as now I know about this place I sure will come there at some point. (I've already checked the exact location.) In any way I would like to start sometime drawing from real places rather photographs or pictures, and I am sure I'll do that.

Also I like to photograph as well. And I am studying photography as well.

Good luck with digital painting. Also having your own references is the best, that way you don't have any copyright issues. And don't need to ask permission for using the references.
What media (software and hardware) are you intending to use?

Ein Akev hasn't changed in the last half a million years, so I guess you can take your time .
Both Eitan and I (as you can see in our profile Basta is a collaboration) are self taught as we got into the art field rather late, in our 30s, so taking the time for on-site studying is not really an option. We consult with professional friends (my mom is a graduate of the first class of camera obscura school in Israel ) and online tutorials and courses.
The digital painting is coming along, I wish I had more time to dedicate to it, but I guess it's good to have something to anticipate.
I use a Wacom intuos5 large tablet, photoshop, auto desk sketchbook pro, and a bunch of other software. I used to do a lot of 3d graphics in the past so I'm also pretty proficient with 3d studio max, maya and zbrush. Basically I use anything I can get my hands on
For practice's sake I use any image or photo I find interesting as copyright is not an issue, of course if and when I choose to publish, I will either use my references, my imagination or get the appropriate permission. It's lucky many users on dA are pretty generous about that.
