who is a member of Luna's Night Court. Silk Cords is, um, well an unusual pony, but she's very loyal to the princess and is devote follower of the silk which she studies regularly. Along with providing entertainment
and color to the court Silk Cords is also part of Luna's security detail. She is very good at defusing a tense situations and individuals, and if that fails she has the silk to help her control the problem.

Cloth...is great for restraining. The knots are far tighter than with rope, since cloth will fall flat. And given how...uh, silky silk is, I imagine that effect will be even stronger.

I hope she practices hard and gets progressively more flexible as she gets better at it! Perhaps she stars stiff but gets there after months or years of practice.

Silks are in interesting material. They are as their name suggests, silky smooth and very pleasing to the touch, a very light, sensual fabric that is surprisingly more sturdy than cotton of greater weight. Such a lariat could snag an offensive mare or stallion as easily as one of AJ's hemp lasso, but restrain them perhaps more securely. It's often noted that silk strands gain in tensile strength when wet, so the more a naughty mare struggles, the more firmly it holds her still.
This fact alone might explain why Silk Cords is so good at her job. Nervous sweat would only strengthen the restraints!
And I'd imagine a certain earthen mare who would like to dispute the advantages of silks over hemp as far as lariats go, but I am wondering if Miss Cords could somehow convince AJ otherwise, that silks are perhaps the better of the two for certain instances?
At least you won't suffer any harsh chafing from being bound by Silk Cords' lariat, AJ.
On a slightly different note: I'd imagine Blooms could learn a thing or two from Luna's court mare's handling of silk lariats.

I can barely imagine what Apple Bloom could do with a silk tether on her scythe... sort of a kinder, gentler, yet bigger form of Kurarigama.
