I guess this would be itAdded a chrome ladder! Lawls... Changed the forward sensor array. Made the plane look cleaner and brighter
but still has it's scratch-off paint...Basically a light fighter armed with a light two-stage gauss gun. Firing rate is roughly 140 slugs a minute and is accelerated using an optically triggered two-stage coil. It's built in the future not too far from now so it still retains it's angular look. It's propulsion is provided by ion engines which deliver an output equivalent to the electrical input meaning that the Thunderbolt requires a power plant capable of delivering immense amounts of energy. The wings are not reasonably aerodynamic enough for atmospheric flight because my initial intentions was for the Thunderbolt (which was inspired by the Babylon 5 Thunderbolt Class Starfury) to be a space craft and not an atmospheric craft.
Some MAJOR design faults include a landing gear meant for VTOLs when the craft isn't capable of being one.

Nice design, but one fatal flaw in a fighter. Rear visibility stinks! If an enemy can jam your sensors, you would have to continually pull the outer space equivilent of a "crazy ivan".

Because of its exclusively Ion Engine propulsion system and non-aero dynamic design, it is intended almost exclusively for orbital combat. As such 'vtol' can be achieved with its maneuvering thrusters.

Just kidding. Really cool, and the tech specs are fun. btw, a good reactor for it would be a matter-antimatter reactor, a bit like the ones used on star trek. obviously it would have to be smaller, cause its a fighter, but it does deliver MASSIVE amounts of energy. SO huzzah!

nice design and concept you got here. but it could be a VTOL in one way. Seeing as how that it must have massive electro magnets for the gauss cannon and that it's engines likely use ionized Xenon, you could say that when the magnetic shielding is turned off, the magnets can push the ions downward and thus vector it's thrust. just a thought.
