Fierce Primal and Proud stands he.A sketch that started in oc and transferred over to an 11x14 piece of Bristol. Sketch itself is roughly 8x10" and took 4 or 5 hours to detail in. The scanner did a number on it and kinda chewed on the background and fur detail especially, but if you are interested in seeing the original, it may well show up in the 2006 Anthrocon Art Show
. Also debating whether to do a painted version of this sketch or not...what ya guys think?Sorry for the long time with no posts, have been working on a lot of real media work..and if I can decent scans/photos of them..I shall post them of course

Dear Artist,
I would like to apologize to you for not being able to keep up with the art that has been piling up inside my messages. While i cannot make a well thought out comment about your work, i would like you to know that i have viewed it, and will continue to look at everything you submit to DA that arrives in my message box, for i would feel too guilty to delete any of the images without atleast looking at them first. Being without a subscription this is harder, so i will go through the art one by one in my box, and post this message.
Please forgive me for not being able to be more personal in my thoughts. I look forward to more of your art every day and again apologize for falling behind on my DA list. When i can finally knock out the 2,000 deviations in my box, i will return to regular, personal messages about the artwork im looking at.

Make the panting look a bit more profound! Other than that, brilliant job, and even with the scanner's choppiness, it looks more brilliant than I've ever seen.

Something about the face looks a bit off... I think the forehead is too narrow. I love the facial markings, though! The detail is amazing, as usual.

I think your background could be darker... up the contrast more, Its a nice drawing but the contrast is a little light (many greys)... I think more darks and highlights would help.

Yet another new style thing that Balaa can do. Actually this reminds me along the lines of your previous "tribal creature" "creature in headdress" work. The line work is very nice, and the face stands out very well, but I'm thinking there was not enough chest given to this specimen. He's got the noble face, but the body is kind of lost in translation... in fact his stripe pattern reminds me more of the rib musculature of a snakes body... perhaps the intention was not to make him appear a naga, but it slides into that for me. No real crit there, as it's my own feeling.
Mechanical pencil work though... that's what makes this simply amazing. Sketch to Bristol... you're working toward "gallery" in real time. One of these days it will be my goal to see a show of your creations. You've already got quite the fan base for it.

but you said it took 4 to 5 hrs to detail in ! That long ?!? was it difficult ?I'm asking coz I found a book once many years ago,on how to draw cats and they said draw fur with long strokes but my cat ended up looking like a black cat ,not a tabby and I didn't know what on earth happened! How did you draw yours ?
