Description The Tiger
By William Blake

TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Thank you to *WickedSairah for the name suggestion. Spent about the last 2 weeks bouting insomnia, moreso than usual. I sketched a rough version of this and decided since I wasn't sleeping anyway to go ahead and see what comes of it, if anything. I had always loved the cliche posters of tigers stalking forward, howevr cliche it does boast a powerful presence..so I decided why not try it with an anthroish cat? I knew, however, after I got some sleep that I would dislike much of it (more specifically the stripes on the back). If I decide to paint this, supposing I have the time and still like the idea, I will redo the stripes on the back to match better with the designs on his face. My absolute favorite part of all of this was the paws, I've gone through several different similar poses (most of them either more frontal or more of a sideview) but all of them ended up obscuring at least one of the paws completely..and seeing as I adore big feline paws, I just couldn't have that. I thought about redoing the whole sketch since I ended up thinking I started a wee bit too small for what I wanted to accomplish, but I'm not sure I have the patience to do another sketch annnd a painted version.

compositional/design critique welcome before I decide whether I want to paint this or not. Thank you guys, oftentimes your advice is truly helpful!!

For so long, I've been extremely tempted to get this as a tattoo, but I don't think I could find an artist who could do it true justice.

Man, that face is so intense. Sweet job. Uhh, critique-wise, I dunno. I'd say the hips and waist sort of bother me, but I'm not used to looking at the more 'humanish' shape in that pose so

Exquisite drawing. Simbelmyne, Kalahari Princess and The Leopard Tree are also exquisite in the same way how many other your drawings. Have you got mine gigantic admiration for. Image, that I should something so exquisite in the room on the wall like picture is gorgeous.

It's spelled with a "y" in the original, but that's just me being a spelling/grammar nazi. Silly English language with it's late to the party standardized spellings... XD

This is really gorgeous! I love the stripes, especially those along the spine. I like the symmetry of them too. I didn't notice it at first, but I kept seeing a pattern. I'm just wowed!

VERY nicely done. Gorgeous details, especially in the fur and the way the muscles undulate to the curve of his body as his slithers down that slope. I really like that his face hasn't become tame in your drawing, like I've seen wild beasts become in so many others' drawings. Not that it's bad, but I really appreciate when someone is able to maintain that look of fierce independence that is so beautiful about creatures like this. Truly breathtaking.

The whole drawing is just so amazing! especially the face that came out so perfect it gives the illusion the tiger is staring right at you. phenomenal job really. Did you draw it from your head or did you get the position of the tiger from a picture?

I LOVE how the paws turned out! I think it's nice how the stripes look partly real and partly like tribal tattoos. You have a very good understanding of both human and animal musculature. The finished painting will be awesome!

Just wanted you to know, I got the tattoo (this last Saturday). I will post a pic of it shortly, though it is not actually done yet (going color), along with, hopefully, a link to this, so everyone will know what I used for inspiration.
