bloody hell man that's so good, makes me wanna learn how to do all this 3D stuff cos that looks completely photo-realistic. bet it took some time to make that . more of a traditional artist myself so i wouldnt have a clue where to start on something like this, i only know photoshop lol. this is one of the best 3D pieces i've seen on DA so keep it up!

man let me tell you i wish i can draw like you guys do
and as for photoshop now thats the best and only piece of software one can ever need. i mean i can easily do without any other software, but not photoshop

Very good done .

Should i little bit detailed the norm screw had a radius between the hexagon and the threadpart, but this is only something minimal and if you look very near at it that you could not see it *g*. Hmmm but if i think clearly i don't see if there not a radius... okay i should say nothing *runs*

Nice job! I swear when I first saw this on your home page I thought it was a photo and wasn't even going to do a full view on it. I mean, let's face it, how many pictures of rusty nuts and bolts have you seen? I seen a bunch. But then the name got me a bit curious and I did the full view and behold... it was a rendering. Very convincing! As far as the rust is concerned it looks fine. Leave it alone. It's perfect.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

opticnerve [2004-12-16 14:56:59 +0000 UTC]

One thing, there is (IMHO) too much detail in the rust, or to put it a different way, the nut and bolt look huige, because the rust pattern suggests they are large.

If you scale up the texture coords, so there is less variance across the rust, it will make them look smaller.

Else top notch job!

ON

Hyperphuzion [2004-12-15 01:58:55 +0000 UTC]

This is pretty darn realistic. However I think the the thread looks a little to perfect for a rusted/old screw. Love the textures though. Maybe increase the specularity a tad bit. Still, looks Awesome. Great work

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

archerx [2004-12-15 00:37:26 +0000 UTC]

don't use standard max textures blatantly like !! plus its the wrong metal type, and where's the specularity ? and the bump is pretty weak if there's any.... just trying to help.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bakka In reply to archerx [2004-12-15 05:35:11 +0000 UTC]

i know and comments are appreciated
ok.. lets see.. textuers are there to be using arn't they? might as well use them .
and why is it the wrong metal type? carbon steel looks like that doesnt it?
and do you really think theer is a need for more speculatiry? i mean its rusted :\

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

archerx In reply to bakka [2004-12-15 19:15:07 +0000 UTC]

yes those textures are there to be used but if some one can spot it from a mile away it takes away from the image, you could have at least, blend/mix it in max with some dirt.

most screws bolt do not look that that, they made from the same material as nails, go look at some nails and screw and you'll see.

the non rusted parts would still be glossy and shinny.

hey looks good... maybe a little edge smoothing (old metal is worn and rounded) or some bump mapping... but otherwise it's great

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Techy-Ben [2004-12-14 17:30:08 +0000 UTC]

Very nice photorealism!

Just needs a few dents/imperfections and a soft edge (either in render by oversampling, or in the mesh with smoothing) and it would be REAL.
