Description Is there anything man-made better looking than this?

P-51C Mustang, N1204 - underwent a 13 year restoration project in order to be returned to flying condition!

I want to thank for suggesting to visit Fantasy of Flight aviation museum!

I'm not much of an expert on these things, but I suspect it's polished (maybe similar to this:  brightworkpolish.com/product/b…)

Fantasy of Flight was one of the best museums I've ever been too.

It's pretty neat, yeah! ^^

Fantasy of Flight certainly isn't the biggest I've been to, but they have restored a lot of their planes in quite simply perfect condition, they're real beauties!

I was impressed by the fact that they try to restore every single airplane to flying condition, and they make sure to fly all of their airplanes every now and then. To me, that's a much better tribute to aviation than putting a new paint job on a plane and sticking it in a corner to gather dust or leaving it outside mounted on a metal pole.

Yeah The museum near where I live in the Netherlands tries to keep some of their planes airworthy too, but the problem is the costs involved. The flying stuff they have is mostly quite large and it's difficult to find the money for it.

They have a fully working and immaculate looking Lockheed Constellation for example, but because they can't get the money together for insurance etc. it only does static engine runs.

A Constellation eh? That might be worth a trip to see. Fantasy of Flight had a Connie when I was there (2004) but it was very beat up and needed a lot of work. I'm not sure what they did with it, it was for sale at the time.

They still had the Connie there earlier this year, looked like it could use a fresh coat of paint.

A picture of the Connie here: [link]

I'm really pleased you managed to visit Fantasy of Flight and obviously enjoyed it. The day I was there, it was the Cub which gave the demonstration flight. What about all those WWII era engines they have in storage ! Amazing.

babynuke In reply to VisualPurple [2009-01-23 21:40:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, very impressive! Without a doubt the single largest collection of airplane engines I've ever seen anywhere. It may well be the largest collection of them in existence, of that kind anyway.

I was hoping the other Mustang they have was gonna do a flight that day as they towed it to the fuelling station - but it just stayed there and it didn't fly.
