Caught off guard by the comment, Zuko started to lower his sword. Mai spun toward him, eyes wide with horror. "Zuko, no!"

These should have been the plot to the Promise! I don't know why, but the ATLA Dark Horse comics feel really like poorly written fan fiction. Is it because they just want to milk it for all it's worth?

But, here a question I want to ask:

Why dose fan fiction get a bad wrap, and why is it not considered literature?

Even Rufftoon's Water Tribe comic got it printed that she gave away at SDCC for a donation to charity. (www.reddit.com/r/TheLastAirben… )

awesome, awesome, awesome!!!! i know i shouldn't be really critiquing this, because i'm not an artist and can't draw anything (literally, my people have no necks, and proportion is nonexistent in my world) but, what happened to azula's right leg, it kind of looks like a garbled stump. Other than that though, this is so fucking epic!!!!!!!!! i never love these moments as much reading the story, but then someone illustrates them and i go *gasp* drama amazing visual!! thanx so much for bolstering my insane enthusiasm for book 4.

Hmm. You have a point about the leg, I think. Nothing I noticed the first ten times I looked at it after deciding it was done. I'm guessing some additional shading could fix it, but I'm too lazy for that.

You are realllllly talented!! I've been dabbing into PS and working on a vector for Avatar. I can't though see how you get that glowing effect like you have with the lightning! How do you get that? If you don't mind me asking..

And new layer, above the lightning. Then I make a real mess all around the edges of the lightning with whatever brush I feel like - it doesn't really matter. Then I Gaussian Blur its ass into oblivion and change opacity till I'm happy with it.

I don't know if PS has Gaussian Blur (I use Macromedia Fireworks), but I'm sure PS has some kind of blur-function to get the same effect.

I kinda fogot to tell you what color you should use.... A bright one. I think I used bright blue or blue-white on this. Depends on what you need it for, of course. Green wouldn't exactly fit this particular pic.

That's what I was thinking..a bright blue-white. When you color the line art, do you use the pen tool for that? That's what I've been doing recently and I wasn't sure if that was the way to go, haha. I'll tell you I made a simple graphic of a Zuko/Katara child and it took ages. I can't imagine how long yours take..whew!

I use the brush tool. A pretty basic brush tool. I'm sure PS has a lot more fancy brushes than Fireworks, though. But I can't tell you the "right" way to do anything when it comes to drawing: it varies greatly from artist to artist and even from artwork to artwork. If I come up with something new or feel like trying something out, then I experiment with it and either use it or throw it out, you know? An artist - I don't remember which one, but he's here on dA somewhere - once said that drawing was 10 % skill and 90 % practice. He's right. Practice, practice, practice and some more practice.

You're very right. See I can do tons of blending, manips, and what not with real people. I've been doing that for over a year but I've just now gotten into vectoring. It's so different, lol. Thanks for all the help!!
