I can see why, they are amazing pets. But they do need alot of care and attention and know-how.
They can go with cats, I know alot of people who own both. But sometimes it doesn't work out. Ferrets can be a little too wild and playful for a cat. But a cat can always jump up higher on tables and such to escape if she wants. Also you just have to see if their characters fit
You can take them for walk. But you have to train them a little to make them used to it. First go and try IN the house, because they are escape masters and they will get out of the leash, if not used to it
I strongly recommend, if you should ever take one.. To look up alot on the internet and if you have facebook.. Go take a look inside ferret groups, you will get to see alot of pictures and information that way as well.. (Ferrets also need to have vactinations each year. Flee, earmite or worm medication, just like dogs and cats.. There is much MUCH more to know about them..
But I'll tell you if you want me to haha
Sorry for the long text .__. I'm just so keen on telling people how and what about ferrets, because I've seen many people mistreat them, or not give them the proper things they need.. Like they are strict carnivores, but people feed them dog food or give them fruit or things like chocolate and cookies.. It's very bad for them.. And so on and on..

I don't mind all this at all, thanks so much for sharing! Yeah I can read about it but you actually have experience. I plan on educating myself big time on this, if anything I aim to be able to provide a happy and comfortable life for any little critter that's around me.
Food area can definitely be an issue. I know how long it's taken me to figure out what the cats both want and need... they keep throwing this wet food at you with grain and stuff they don't even need, for example... and then you get them something they should love by all accords and they hate it... Do you feed them the same thing every day? Like I don't know, say guts? And something else I've been wondering, do they keep to the same spots for napping or sleeping? To go as far as to suggest I should have a cage for certain situations (other than transport) seems brutal...

Oh that's great to hear. Everyone should be like that.. I you want an animal you should look up things and inform yourself thoroughly, maybe go check with people that have the animal that you want.. Ofc, they should be treating the beastie the right way too.. Or else it would be in vain for you to go visit them
Yes, it's indeed an issue, not only with ferrets.. There is ferret kibble available, normally I would say, in most countries.. I feed them kibble everyday.. They get a raw egg every three weeks or once a month.. I give them raw chicken hearts and chicken filet with or withouth bone.. I prefer to chop it up for them. The chicken hearts I just cut in pieces with scissors
I buy them in a food store/supermarket.. I put them in little plastic bag in portions and put em in the freezer.. So they stay fresh longer, and you can stash up bigger.. I give those every other week or weekly, depends, You can also buy pinkies or frozen mice or chicks.. I put those in the freezer as well and let them defreeze on the counter (keep out of reach from cats )
I give those too, but those not chopped up, just full prey, if they are with more they can "rip it appart" easier
they can eat anything if its meat and its fresh (exept pork!) And I go with the meats that they would be able to catch or find in the wild if they lived in the wild (they don't).. You don't see a ferret putting down a pig don't you Haha.. More like chickens, rats, turkey, mice that sort of thing, but ferret kibble is just fine too..
As for a cage, I do encourage you to get a cage, ferrets are escape masters, as I said before, and tend to break stuff and get in and over everything if they set their mind to it.. They could hurt themselves badly if left alone without supervision.. Get in vents, under or in the couch.. Fall from big heights.. Get stuck somewhere or electrocute themselves.. I don't know if you have a facebook account, but I have a page for my ferrets. You can like it and stay updated, you will also get to see how their cage looks and such (also NO sawdust or straw as bedding! Ferrets have a sensitive noze and lungs) Their bedding should be blanckets and hammocks, pillowcases, stuffed animals
They do go in a litter box inside their cage, patience does it, to learn them..
