I grew up reading LSH stories and they're still one of my favorite super-teams. Ferro Lad, Ultra Boy, Timber Wolf and Wildfire will always be among my favorite super-heroes ever.

Like you, I grew up with the Legion. I have most of my old Legion series minus a few I would love to re-collect. Heck, I even killed the Legion of Substitute Heroes, as silly as they were. But after that whole change in the Legion and DC heroes in the mid 90's I stopped collecting. I have a couple of the first issues of the new legion but all in all I hated the change. And still do.

Yeah, the "5 Years Later" Legion really should have been done as an Elseworlds and while the "Archie" Legion had some interesting characters (Monstress, Shikari Lonestar, XS), in general I wasn't real pleased with the effort.
By the time the "real" Legion reappeared, so much damage had been done to the franchise it was inevitable the book would fail.

And see, I never even heard of those characters. I will browse now and then to see what DC has done too my favorite characters, cringe and walk away. I know that DC created this new legion and did some Earth ABC junk. Then tried to mix the old with the new, which made no sense. Then just wrote off the old Legion for the new one. the only thing I liked about the first 5 issues of the new series was that the characters were a bit more relatable when it came to everyday issues, like shopping, vacations and just bumming about. But when it came to the serious stuff, it was either too whinny or like I was rereading the old series with a couple of twists. And the new costumes were annoying me. But then again, so were the costumes in the last few years with the old Legion: when everyone was wearing vests and tight cargo pants.
It was actually from the LOSH that my friends and I created our own characters and team. (With help from the original Titans and Infinity Inc) When we got into roleplaying the stories started to role out.
