Description First off, I suck at backgrounds. I know.
---------------------
Now, this little picture came from my debate with one of my friends when we saw the movie. Now, according to what I saw, I do not believe, that Smaug received a fatal wound from Bard.
Considering the awkward way he shot it, the sheer size of the dragon (he must have some hardened skin over the scale-less bit and a thick muscle layer) and the way the arrow penetrated him (basically a horizontal shot), and the fact that only about 40-50% of the arrow embedded itself, I cannot see the projectile reaching Smaug's lungs or heart.

I can see him having acted his 'death' at first and then when nobody expected him to return and were done with the celebration, he would have emerged with a mighty roar from the lake. Bard and the dwarves would have died, along with Bilbo, the orcs would have returned the One Ring to Sauron, who then would have gained lordship over Middle-Earth if Gandalf didn't find a way to stop him.

I can see Smaug forge an uneasy cooperation with the Dark Lord. He would help him destroy Man and the elves but in return he would have all the gold and gems of Middle-Earth and would be served as king and Lord of the Mountain in Erebor by the enslaved dwarves.
----------------------

Well, this is my take at the very least. Of course, I am aware that in both the books and the movie Smaug indeed died (although I do question the shot in the movie). This is simply my opinion and the aftermath I would have seen.

I have been working on the water for weeks. I tried different techniques but at least this one fits best. I think. I also didnt want to litter the background with the ruined Laketown.

But he died like this in the book, if he died in a different way (that doesnt be wrong to me) but that should be a disrespect to Tolkien original work. Smaug was expected to dying in this way, if he dont the movie should be no more a tribute to the book but a insult. He still a lovely character, very epic, entertaining and charismatic as fuck. Tolkien books are awesome, Peter Jackson change to much some things in the Hobbit movies so if change this I dont think we can call this movie "The Hobbit" he would be the same disaster than Eragon and The Seventh Son movies who are based on a books series too. At least your conception is good, and the art nice. But Sauron and Smaug are not ally, and have completely different objective. Sauron want power, Smaug just gold and Smaug know he dont need a corrupted Maia who was defeated three times (Gandalf, Talion, Frodo) and maybe even more for have gold. Actually Thorin was more greedy than Smaug and manipulative.

It was said that Sauron would try to make a deal with Smaug.
I mean, why not? Sauron could get the help from Smaug and promise him the entire riches and gold of Middle-Earth. That is a bit more than what he has now. Since Smaug is a hoarder dragon, he would have trouble resisting such a temptation, I am sure.

But yeah, this is just my opinion.

I read the book, I dont remember Sauron want to work with, Smaug. And I dont think Smaug would accept to work with a another creature, unless that was Morgoth. Smaug would say "I dont need you for getting what I want, Necromancer" Smaug is a unsocial character

That would have been probably next on his list. I can see it happening xD
We cant really know that, though.
In the end, Smaug died and this possibility remains just that. A possibility.
An interesting 'what if'. Just something to think about.

..."I do not believe, that Smaug received a fatal wound from Bard"...

Come on, where's your child-like imagination?
You can make that arrow do anything, if you try.

Well, imagination works different ways. You imagine it worked, I see it shouldnt have. I choose where to use imagination and where not.
