How did you get that amazing texture? What stencils did you use? I've seen a good amount of stencil work but nothing that small on such a detailed surface?

Just wrap it tight for each spraying.Β use a toothpick or small tool to push suspended sections in while spraying.
I only wrote tutorials for the basic stuff because everything after that is just application of the basics and easy to figure out.Β
Its like normal painting. Once you learn blending and color theory you know pretty much everything. You just need to practice applications.

Mate, there has been a photohsopped version of your photo circulating the net, someone removed the wires and (sadly) your signature from the photo. Just to give you a heads-up. www.desura.com/groups/warhammeβ¦
(or, if it's you, sorry for bothering xD)

Thanks
While I agree it would be nice for the wires to not be there, they should at least give credit... Sigh.Β Β Desura does not appear to be too friendly to trying to correct misrepresentations on their site.
Happy gaming/painting!

just pester them and they will remove it. No site is friendly regarding correcting misinterpretation, and many people deliberatley remove signatures because... cucumbers? they want the glory? dunno.

I just had my mind blown. this is just incredible! the plastic bits that represent the shields impact areas is a brilliant idea. the airbrushing on those is just insane! all shield stuff aside, i really like how you painted the commander. i like the carbon fiber look and the colours used in-between the gaps in the armor (i really like the pinkish purple glow on the shoulder vent things. there is just so much epicness in this work! just wow!

If I ever play against this model (Despite being a Tau player myself) I would immediately concede on the grounds of awesome.
Also, how did you do the shields proper? I want to add them to my Farsight model, because in the last few games he took no damage while sitting out in the open in a very un-Farsight-like manner. I blamed his shields, even though all of the wounds he saved were normal armour saves.

Shield are just airbrushed acrylic.Β Β Get any piece of clear acrylic like christmas bulbs made of plastic, andΒ cut and paint them.

Atropos907 In reply to slagpoplen [2013-04-14 23:11:16 +0000 UTC]
Not sure what else you would call an invulnerable save...I always asumed it was a low output energy field that may or may not calculate and project in time and at the right angle to deflect a hit. Hence the little shield drones orbiting around this XV9 trying to throw themselves between the xv9 and the enemy. Thus if their shields fail, they eat the round before the XV does.

Every time I look at this I can just feel being in that suit as he takes a huge impact on his arm shield nearly crushing him and his suit as it deflects the shot.
