Description I was playing with fluffy T. rex ideas.  I'm pretty pleased with this concept.  Plus there is a generic soldier for scale, so that's cool.

Ever had a roaster chase you?

Its the most "scary-ridiculous" thing you can have happen to something you know that you know shouldn't be a issue.

Though other birds are much scarier.... The Muscovy duck males my landlady owned petrified her postmen over the years as and I had a male Mute swan come after me that has made me look at swans in a very different light ever since. I tried to get a photo of his cygnets and hen and he didn't like how close I got.  Pheasants are also known to go after people if they have a hen nearby. And there are many birds of prey who can rip your hands and arms to pieces, and crows can poke eyes out with their chisel-like beaks.  And seagulls swarm down upon a dropped lag of fish and chips in number that can be overwhelming.  Having also had a broading budge hen take a chunk out of my finger, leaving a small scar I am cautious around those as well (thank goodness I never bred anything larger like a cockatoo or Macaw!).

People tend to view birds as non-threatening, but in reality.. Its so easy to forget these things are basically living dinosaurs and under those feathers is a series of very nasty ancestors. What they have become and what they used to be are two different things, but what they used to be is still under their skin, like giant piercing fangs in cats are in the genes of cat species.  Or how a wolf is under the skin of every dog...

Hope nobody bashes me for saying this, but the only issue I have with these feathered dinosaur drawings is the head coloration. You have this head that is still rather scaly/ skin-covered with a very light amount of feathers, but the whole thing is colored like a beak, unlike birds with this trait today, such as ostriches, emus and cassowaries. Sure they still have a good amount of feathers, but they aren't the same color as the beak. Just expressing my opinion and thoughts here.

Well this is a Tyrannosaur not an Abelisaur, Yutyrannus and Dilong had feathers.

Last I checked wasn't there no substantial evidence that adult Tyrannosaurus had feathers, just speculation? I know that the few skin impressions left didn't show any.

Besides I highly doubt that the notion that Yutyrannus and Dilong are Tyrannosaurs will stick, classification of dinosaurs chagnes as quickly as you snap your fingers.

Corallianassa In reply to 5aq [2016-08-05 10:04:22 +0000 UTC]

Actually, a piece of T.rex skin showing skin with feather holes like plucked bird skin is now being described so yes, there IS direct evidence.

5aq In reply to Corallianassa [2016-08-07 14:42:54 +0000 UTC]

May I please get a source on that?

Either way, I will always prefer the design given to us by Jurassic Park. That Rex looks and acts so real, it allows my imagination to easily go wild.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Corallianassa In reply to 5aq [2016-08-15 06:13:50 +0000 UTC]

It's second hand info, I should have told ''don't take my word for it'', I shall try to find the original comment that leads to Paul Sereno's quote, which said he had that undescribed piece of skin.
So, it is still being described, no pics, meaning it has little scientific value until it gets described.

In a way, as of now, there is no evidence of fluff on rex until that piece of skin gets described.
