I like the painterliness of this one. I really feel this could be a painting.

Imitating traditional medias in digital is damn hard, but worth the effort. There is nothing better than real paint feeling in painting, don't you think? Digital medias don't give this 'touch'

I agree. Even some of the best artists here on DevArt, you can see the algorithmed brush stroke pattern and it's a bit of a let down. Sometimes it just feels contrived. And yet, as one learning to paint traditionally and getting more than my fair share of the stuff up my nose and in my hair, I struggle to maintain or even come close to the same degree of control with traditional. You can't get the exact color you want, it's brutal to do the finer work. You get all this gorgeous organic stuff just by throwing paint against a canvass, but there's a give and take I guess,
Do you paint?

I just snagged that brush myself. Looking forward to taking it for a test run. Image looks great, how'd you like the brush?

once again
those colors
do you paint directly or do you begin gray scaling?

Initial sketch is very often monochromatic, not necessarily in b&w. It helps a lot to set the values and shape readibility.
