No apologies, please.
We are all busy. It's a good sign that we're living beings, eh?
Busy here too. My first triathlon's in a month!

Hobby as in more art or reading?

Art....I have sponsors that are putting my designs out in mass production in July.

How long have you been training for that triathlon?

Congrats on that...so will you be selling your prints? What kind of designs are they?

Well, I started to learn how to swim in early February and now am able to swim a really short distance in a reservoir (in my wet suit), run 3 miles non-stop without stopping for a breath or walking, and bike for 17 miles along 2 highways--- I'd say a good 4 months.

Well, midlife crisis?
At least your in tip top shape, funny, I started running again ealier this week.
Wannna race?!!
They are putting out a variety of merchandise, it just taking so long because I of course had to have things my way.
But I want to market my way, I mean it has worked so far.
It is actually one of my submissions here, I just had to change some things and break it down the to the basic coors for production, but still think it came out OK.
I'll resubmit the new image once the products hit the street in July.

Midlife crisis...? Very funny.

So, did you use to run?
I may be able to run non stop, but I'm still quite a slowpoke, so you gotta let me have a mile ahead in front of you...

Can't wait to see the products. July's just around the corner. Bet you're kinda excited...

I was on the military track team back in the day. I can still move pretty well, but my wind is gone, I actually puked my first time last week.
I'd SMOKE you though!!!!

Anyone can run faster than me, so don't be too high up there...
I'm such a wimp... I don't even like to get sweaty at the gym, but getting sweaty in my training is unavoidable...

topiltzin In reply to artizd [2008-07-02 12:55:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm the same way, no matter the intensity of the workout I sweat buckets.
Chic, I can burn allot of people still in my old age!!! My daughter and nieces always ask me to play tag or something with them because I have no qualms being "It" all the time.....and I always catch everyone before they reach base.

artizd In reply to topiltzin [2008-07-02 15:12:33 +0000 UTC]

I think that it's great that you make time to play. Kids just love it when adults play with them, no matter what kind of game.

Old? Hate to bring up the fact that at this point of our lives, it doesn't matter, as long your body can handle it. Give me 10 more years, I'll be in a wheelchair from overworking my body....

Heh heh.

topiltzin In reply to artizd [2008-07-03 17:24:21 +0000 UTC]

I know I workout like a madman and like I said, began to run again. So far so good, I'm still active, alive and kicking.
I have Bruce Lee's mindset, let's just see exactly what the body can take.
As we old folks know, it always boils down to mind over matter.
So hey, if your in a wheelchair, I can push you around some.

artizd In reply to topiltzin [2008-07-08 22:28:36 +0000 UTC]

I'm too fast for that rock...

My wheels have extra tread so oils won't affect them either...

YOU WILL NEVER FIND IT!!!
Wait....that doesn't make me sound so good. Oh well....I'll just tip you over!!!

artizd In reply to topiltzin [2008-07-11 22:42:56 +0000 UTC]

lol! That's too funny!

Uh-Oh! My hefty bodyguard is grabbing your wheelchair and throwing it to the street... with you in it!! Buh-bye!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

topiltzin In reply to artizd [2008-07-16 12:20:42 +0000 UTC]

See that's my wheelchair will trasform into an Autobot and start blasting your "hefty bodyguard" thereby rendering him helpless allowing me to crawl to the finish line unchallenged!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

artizd In reply to topiltzin [2008-07-30 17:45:29 +0000 UTC]

But you failed to see that at the end of what you thought was the finish line is actually a trap, that opens the door to the universe. Of course, since you're too tired to turn back, you get sucked into the awaiting black hole, never to be seen again, while I march proudly to the REAL finish line, claiming the first prize...

Well, I sort of took a leap of faith started my own business and signed a consulting contract with my old company..a couple other companies since then too. And I've been doing some projects with another artist I've known for a while. I simply can't do everything and be everywhere...so we have joined forces for both our benefit. It was a good choice too, I thought I was anal, but she may be worse!!!
So yeah...I've been busy.

How was your trip?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

artizd In reply to topiltzin [2008-08-22 21:42:56 +0000 UTC]

That sounds great! What kind of consulting work do you do? Is it art related? I think it's great that you're collaborating with another artist in your other projects. Two heads are better than one-- as they say.

Keep being busy... it's good for your health...

Thanks for asking-- my trip went great. We went fishing, rafting, alpine sliding, horse riding, swimming... Lots of fun! The only thing, my husband jumped a 40 foot cliff during the rafting trip and fell at a weird angle into the water. He had a HUGE bruise on his rear. The guides called it 'a Colorado River Spanking' !!!

lol!

He still has the bruise and it impacted his vertebrae, but I think our chiropractor took care of that...

topiltzin In reply to artizd [2008-08-25 11:38:10 +0000 UTC]

No, it's not art related, I like to eat you know.
Business consulting, right now, since I'm just getting started I've kept it to what I have been doing for years, Quality.
It's going OK so far.

Ouch..Colorado River Spanking huh?
Be sure to kiss it and make it better!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

artizd In reply to topiltzin [2008-08-25 15:26:14 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm.... not art related. I figured it would be business consulting. That's great that you're using what you know to help others and make money along the way. You have confidence in yourself, and I know that would take you very far.

The area affected by the spanking has been kissed, soothed and... chuckled upon! Hehe! It's all good.

Thanks Michelle! I actually chose the colors but used the ref as a guide for the form and just the purple edging. No iris would be this colorful, huh?

straycat27 [2008-06-23 23:34:42 +0000 UTC]

One question, my friend...
did you draw the foreground and the background separately?
I mean instead of layering?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

artizd In reply to straycat27 [2008-06-24 21:53:10 +0000 UTC]

Separately. The dark background was an after thought. The contrast just wasn't there initially so I had to blacken around the flowers etc...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

straycat27 In reply to artizd [2008-06-25 08:32:58 +0000 UTC]

I asked 'coz it's quite obvious.
I dunno..I read somewhere that one should start the foreground and the background at the same time since pastel is an opaque medium..you can easily layer it.
Do you mind sharing with me your step-by-step procedure?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

artizd In reply to straycat27 [2008-06-25 15:26:56 +0000 UTC]

Glad you picked up on it...

Since I never really had a pre-drawing of this, it was sorta hard to just add in the bg at the very end, so I think it's good to plan a background and do the whole thing at the same time.

If you're willing to see my trials and errors, I'm planning to start a WIP at the pastel forum on AP. DA doesn't like WIPs so I am never going to post wips on DA again-- they took out my Beyond The Broken Gate Wip 8 recently and put it to scraps.
