*download for full view*Okay, here it finally is. Finally remembered to bring my work sketchbook home.
So, 2 of my co-workers bought me a sketchbook ( even though I still have a ton of empty ones at home ), because they noticed me always doodling in lined Steno pads with Bic pens at work while on the phone. It was very thoughtful of them, and of course, the first several pages of the sketchbook had to go to drawing pictures for them, but the rest- is mine!
While doodling at work, I don't like drawing something that requires a lot of in-depth reference research- can't do that while I'm *cough* working. So it's better to just draw something that is forever emblazoned in my brain- that can be hammered out from memory only. Well, I've only been drawing Road Rovers for 22 years now, so it's pretty much got real estate on several wrinkles of my brain.
So enjoy some sketchies of the main crew ( sorry Shag and Muzzle ), and of course, 2 of my most well-known OCs from the fandom, Alethia ( Aisha ) and Chavaleh.

So... they started out as normal dogs and then, because of a lab accident, they became the creatures they are today?

No- basically there is a mysterious scientist that calls himself "The Master" that perfected a machine that can anthropomorphize dogs and give them special powers. He selected certain dogs from different countries ( USA, England, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, etc. ) and used this technology to create a team of canine super heroes. My personal OC, Alethia, though, was raised in a genetics lab that was engineering dog soldiers for the military.
Anyway, it's a really fun series from the mid-90s. Its only 13 episodes long and you can find it on YouTube if you ever want to give it a watch.

I this that genetic lab was called something like "Paris Park" or "Paris Farms". If I remember correctly, Alethia managed to escape the place but it resulted in her fellow escapees dying in the attempt (one getting a shotgun in the stomach, I think).

Aww that was sweet of the co-workers to notice and get you a sketchbook XD And if you actually draw you can never have too many sketchbooks right? 
I'd make some comment on how 22 years is a long time to be working on something but I have a project I've been spending a lot of time on so yeh I can understand how that could be quite firmly committed to memory XD

I really should do more sketchdumps. I have so much art that will probably never make it past "sketch" phase, but still have value and people may still get enjoyment out of if I shared.

Sketch dumps are a lot of fun. I definitely encourage you to do some if you've got a collection that's just sitting there. I love looking through sketch dumps. They're good practice for the artist, too.

Oh my gosh, I love the style of your art. You draw the Road Rovers so beautifully. These are so wonderful. The thing that pops out for me is that you have nose/muzzle perspective down really well, especially with the different types of muzzles for the different dog breeds.

Gotta ask. Who is Aisha? Was that an earlier name for Alethia or something? I remember Al from back in the day with the old RR fandom, but I don't recall her ever having a different name, or even mention of another char of yours by that name. Chava I remember. Aisha's kinda outta left field. Any backstory behind the alternate name?

Aisha is Alethia’s real Japanese name. She was given the name ‘Alethia’ by the English-speaking scientists at Perris Park. She prefers to still go by Alethia and only her brothers and sisters still call her Aisha.

Huh. I don't think you ever mentioned it back in the day when you described her backstory. Was that something you developed later about her, or was that just something you never really brought up? Cause that's a very interesting tidbit.

I always pictured Colleen kind of dressing in the British Punk look that was popular in the 80s and 90s. I know I have several sketches of her dressed in different outfits floating around somewheres....

Well, since I *finally* emptier my storage unit in Southern California that was just sitting there for 6 years after my fiancé and I split, I was able to bring home boxes and boxes of sketchbooks dating as far back as when I was in Elementary school. It will be a project, but I’ve been wanting to go through them all.
Maybe even find some good fodder for those ‘draw this again’ memes!

Oh wow, 2011 was your first viewing? I forget how old I am sometimes ( except when people sometimes comment on my older artwork, 'ermahgerd, I wasn't even born when you drew this!' xD )
What sucks is that what you probably saw were the edited versions of the series ( why do studios keep doing that to our favorite shows???!! ). Luckily, I videotaped every episode off of television the same day it aired, so I have all the episodes full and uncut in my personal collection.
But yaaaaasssssss you should totally rewatch the series. It kind of has that dated 90's humor, but I still find it makes me laugh and smile so much.

Haha yeah. It's funny because I actually remember seeing a commercial for the show I think around 1996, I was a little kid and I remember watching an episode of Animaniacs on KidsWB and I saw one of the bumper commercials for it but I didn't know what the show was because it came on while I was still in school so I'd miss it.
Fast-forward and I watched all 13 episodes in 2011 when I found it on YouTube after seeing it in a 90s cartoon list haha. I'm not sure if I watched the edited one but I remember the quality looking pretty rough at like 360p and it had the KidsWB logo so maybe it was an actual VHS recording?
I remember liking it at the time and the dated humor didn't bother me at all so yeah I'll definitely watch again.

I miss all your "Road Rovers" art. I miss "Road Rovers", in fact. Why did they have to cancel the show eventhough it got ratings as high as the "Superman" animated series? Warner Bros. are such promise breakers. They still are.

First off- your avatar is adorable and mesmerizing. Secondly- thank you! I really miss drawing "Road Rovers'. It's one of my goals this year to make the time to draw more. And when it's hard to get motivated, fan art always inspires me and makes me happy.
I think the real reason behind the "Road Rovers" cancellation ( I used to talk to Tom Ruegger a lot through email back in the 90s and I kick the hell out of myself for not printing up/saving those conversations ) even though he didn't ( and probably couldn't ) come right out and say it, was a lawsuit against the studio from some guy who claimed Warner Brothers stole the "Road Rovers" idea from him. I don't know what the outcome was ( whether they settled out of court with this guy or not ) but effectively, "Road Rovers" was cancelled because of it. There is actually a small blurb about this lawsuit in a Legal book on Hollywood lawsuits.

I was born in the 80s, but most of my childhood was in the 90s. I love both of those decades though, just so much good stuff.
I mean, we have some pretty amazing stuff now too, but there was a flavour back then that tasted special.

Yeah I have so many sketch but oks to. And I don’t know if it’s just me but it’s starting to get to the point we’re it feels like a “cop out gift” you know what I men? (If they REALLY want to buy me art stuff a light box/table would be nice XD)
