Description Awhile back, my friend asked me if I had any good rainbow shots. And after searching through my archives, well, I had one or two rainbow shots but none good. This afternoon, the sun was shining down, and my daughter ran in, saying "It's raining..." I immediately went on the lookout for a rainbow, and I was not disappointed. In fact, it was almost a double-rainbow, and if you look closely, you can see the shadow of the second rainbow just above the primary.

And the fields of corn at the base of this end of the rainbow are almost golden in the sunlight shining down at them... So perhaps we have found the gold at the end of the rainbow.

This one is for sleep-flower to fulfill her challenge to me.

There's a related one, "Gold II", that has a different view of it. But the sad thing is I could not do the whole view in one shot. It was a perfect double-arch rainbow, end to end, but I could only take photos of pieces of it.

there is no free program out there that lets you stitch them together?

Umm yeah. BUT. I tried. The problem was that I took photos of each end, and the arch.. but the arch was high enough that the cornfield underneath wasn't visible... and the lighting in each frame was different. Turned into a nightmare trying to stitch it together.

There's something called Panorama Perfect Lite that's freeware but offers only a 'reduced size' option unless you upgrade to pro... and then somewhere along the way we got Arcsoft Panorama Maker with some camera or something..

The Canon has something like that too but I haven't tried it out yet.

Wouldn't a nice wide angle lens make it all so much better. Want to see an early effort with panorama software?

Sure you do: [link]

This may have been the first one I ever did. I was so excited. Then I saw the results and was so frustrated. Now I know that people pay lots of good money for lenses that can do the same effect. Still, it was fun!!

when i was looking at amazon for the wide angle they had some with fish eye wide angle........is that better than the plain one?

Weeeelllll... now. that's a matter of perspective. Some people love it - for the distortion similar to what you saw in my panorama, and for the fact that you can see everything around your camera.

However. For my tastes, I have a hard time with that level of distortion.. I'd prefer to have a wide angle that didn't warp the scenes I am capturing. It's the nature of the beast that you'll get some, but.. still.....

it is a matter of taste..and i also think a fish eye doesnt look good on everything. Oh, i loaded the new picasa down and i didnt see anywhere where i can frame out like you did on that collage of the bridge? Am i not looking in the right place?

This is what i think a rainbow ''feels'' like, [link] but then again.. it's like trying to smell the color nine.. or any number... impossible to know!

Thank you!!! I appreciate it. This was probably the best 'rainbow' shot i've taken. I wish I had a wide-angle lens so that I could maybe have captured more of it in one, but I'll take what I can get...

I wish the 2nd had been a little brighter and/or that this shot had been shifted to the left a tad bit to catch it better... but i'll take it as i can get it.

Thank you!

I've been looking for less than two weeks for this rainbow and then, there it was. They aren't common at all, even here... but I'm glad I found it.

I had other shots taken within minutes of these but the sun was already being covered by the cloud - this was one of the few that showed the gold like that!
