Description FULL VIEW PLZ! It looks awful if you don't!

Back from vacation, and here are the results! Some of them, anyway. It's Link in his Twilight Princess style! I've been avoiding making a genuine attempt at drawing Link for ages, because he's got a much more refined facial structure now - he's not as ambiguous as he used to be. I still strayed away from it, of course, but it's more approachable now.

I drew this completely in Photoshop with my tablet - I started with a sketch for Link's face, but everything is completely created through the tablet. It took about an hour, I'd say. I'm really happy with the shading effects - I know it may not be the most professional thing, but I happen to like how I can imitate real dry media effects (charcoal, graphite, wax, etc), but with superior control.

One thing I learned through this, though, is that I'll never really beat pencil-and-paper. I was only able to do this through the help of having a scanned sketch to work with. It may come to be that I can draw stuff completely without the help of any traditional media, but I think I'll always prefer it - simply for the sake of being an analogue guy in a digital world (+10 awesomepoints if you know where that quote's from.)

I'm liking how some of the last few canon Zelda games have been shaping up as far as symbolism - for one thing, they address the creation of Hyrule in Ocarina of Time, and the truly epic symbolism and plot depth of the Triforce. But the thing that really gets me, starting with OoT, is the lineage they've been building of Links. In OoT, you've got the Hero of Time. In Wind Waker (not quite canon, but a fully acknowledge part of the Zelda franchise, and it served as canon at the time), you've got the Hero of Winds. And in Twilight Princess, though they never come out and say it, I think it's a pretty easy jump to call Link the Hero of Light. I'm hoping they have another dominant theme like that in the next canon game.

I must say this is pretty amazing, and for someone who's had a tablet for a short time, you've pretty much got it in the bag. Congratz, man, I wonder how many layers it took?

I think twilight princess (even though I LOVE that game) is the one that doesn't follow the story line..WW is almost a direct sequel to OoT (besides MM) for example, at the end of OoT, ganon says once the seal is broken he will take his revenge on zelda and link's decendants, those decendants are the Link and tetra in WW and ganon is free after breaking the seal long after Hyrules time. sounds like it follows the story perfectly to me ^w^ but as for TP...where did THAT link come from? O.O

anyways sorry if I'm just sprouting useless info that you already knew~ ^w^

LOVE the pic btw absolutly LOVE your style!! you have to be one of my fave artists on this site!!

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK KAY?! ^w^

Even though it had a vastly different graphical style, saying Windwaker isn't cannon isn't nessesarily true. It heavily refrences the storyline from OoT constantly. Different graphic style or not, it deserves a place in the main continuity with that fact in mind.

I like how the TP graphic style and the WW graphic style are seemingly mixed together in this pic.

Well, I said it's not necessarily canon because that's what some of the bigwigs in Nintendo said about it. They said that it may follow from past canon, but that it's a sort of "alternate timeline" of Hyrule - it doesn't actually flow into Twilight Princess the way it flows from Ocarina of Time.

Regardless of that, I still like it, and I like how it ties into the Zelda timeline more than Twilight Princess... I couldn't even tell how that one was linked to OoT, aside from Ganon breaking out of the Sacred Realm... and I can't even remember the details on that. I've heard that somebody close to Miyamoto has a complete timeline of the Zelda series on his computer - I'd love to see it someday, or at least see evidence that such a timeline exists by seeing how it plays out in the games.

And I hadn't even considered how I could mix TP with WW's art style... I'll have to do that deliberately next time. Thanks much!

As far as how WW ties in, I believe it came before Twilight Princess. There are a lot of people I know who see it as plausable, though there are a few pieces still missing. Mainly how the Temple of Time is found near Ordon Village instead of close to Hyrule Castle Town. Some people say the castle had been moved northward from it's original position, yet Death Mountain is still to the northwet of the castle, ultimatly smashing that theory to pieces. Plus, if one look at the WW, OoT, and TP maps, you'll see that the locations of Death Mountain (or in the case of WW, Dragon Roost Island) are always in the same place. This means the Temple of Time had to have been transported ito the deep woods somehow (Magic most likely).

Sorry to interupt, as I deffinatly am, but I believe I have a possible answer for this conundrum

The Zelda Timeline was split after OoT. One timeline progressed from the adult timeline, and Wind Waker was spawned from this. Since Ganon had to break out of the sacred realm, he had to be IN the sacred realm, ala Adult Timeline.

But Twilight Princess spawns from the child's timeline, since Ganondorf was never in the sacred realm, but was judged by the sages in Arbiter's Something (Forget the specific name).

This has actually been discussed by Zelda developers, but only on a few occasions.
Wow, I feel like a reallllly big nerd!
