Nightmare Moon humanized."Come at me bro" badge for sale at Animefest.
Finally said "fuck it" to keeping to the pastel color palette and shaded like I normally do. :3
Now Pinkie's calling her "Black Snooty" fits a humanized character. XD The only ones I've seen on a search have been pasty white girls. Get some diversity in your ponies, people!

Celestia may have a white coat, but it does make scence to have her skin darker. But really, its how you picture things. MLP has not set any skin color for ANY ponies; so don't worry about racist~! They can keep their thoughts to themselves. <3 c:

Ya know, many of the comments given in this picture is the very reason I started my group because how in the hell can people assume that the pony cast are WHITE based on things like coat color and the logic of 'canon' race. Frankly, there has been NO canon race set from the ponies at all and to assume their is just falling back on the logic of 'the default HAS to be white' bullshit I hate in most shows now.
I also find it hypocritical to how people have received this show; they are somehow able to ACCEPT the ponies as being female and having different personalities but as soon as they show up in human form, they HAVE to have the same bodies and they HAVE to be the same race? Why? You accepted them as different before but suddenly it bothers you that the character that you MIGHT has liked as a pony is drawn as black, Hispanic, Asian, ect. If anything, it shows that society STILL has a lot of growing up to do when it comes to acceptance because when a person can't even draw a character who is a FUCKING PONY WITH NO RACE WHATSOEVER without being harassed over the choice of ethnicity, something is wrong.
BOTH the drawings are great so to spare you on writing text walls on BOTH, let me evaluate them here; both skin versions are well done. The lighter tones of the second version are chosen nicely and go well with the blue. In this version, the darker browns are shaded well and thankfully don't have too much of a glare on them, which in turn would make NMM look a little bit too plastic. The choice of armor is a new one on me; I love the articulation of the hand as it makes her look all the more scary! She looks like a bad-ass fighter from the moon...FROM TEH FUT'AH!

There is not enough art like this anywhere of quality and quantity. And if there is, some jerk comes out of nowhere and white-washes it to make it 'look better.'
Not to say your lighter version is a bad thing or anything! But when someone aside from the artist does that its rude, despicable and just plain racist.

First of all this piece is beautifully done, the attention to detail and the coloring really make it. Second, I fully support you making Nightmare Moon a different race. People are constantly drawing human versions of all the ponies and they're always white or asian.
There is absolutely no reason that any of the ponies couldn't be something other than those two races. I would like to see more people think outside the box instead of getting sucked in by stereotypes.

I absolutely love this picture, especially the skin tone!!!! Most people wouldn't dare to go that dark, or if they did, they get completely wrong. So thank you very very very very much for not being afraid to draw a strong bad-a$$ black woman and getting the coloring right!! I love this picture. I do. I don't like the idea of ponies being all white, and other "races" having to settle with other animals, as if white is the default. Too much in society makes white the default and "others" other races, and it hurts, it aches to be told that ponies can't be black because "that's just what makes sense" because it's another little thing, and little nicks and cuts add up to a person's sense of worth.
If I could favorite this five times, I would.
