I can't blame you on how you had problems with the dress idea. The writer of the book is from Denmark. I believe Eric's kingdom was set in England, because when Ariel and Eric went out for a drive around the city, there was a Punch and Judy show (the hand doll show which Ariel pulled off).

In Robin Hood, when Robin and Marian had a party in the forest, we could also see that show.

In Pocahontas 2, when Pocahontas went to London, there was also the Punch and Judy show.
But in The Little Mermaid Film, It never really said where. And all the clues conflict with each other.

The chef is french, and baguettes in the film.

In the song 'Poor Unfortunate Souls', Ursula says "Come winds of the Caspain Sea"...which is in Russia...
but the original author is from Denmark. It's really confusing to me, but I think it takes place in Denmark. I know know what century though. I hope this helps with anything...

First thing I want to say: I'm only of those people who thinks pink goes with a redhead, but the sea green/aquamarine color you used with Ariel is really nice, because I think that dead shade of pink they used in the movie is dull and boring! I dislike the Little Mermaid's pallete in general, mostly the surface backgrounds, that grey sky makes me shudder.
I'm not a really fan of the hairstyle you used, the curly look ridiculous to me, and I really hope that that thing atop her hair is a bad-choosen hair bow or a hat. The bows looks unrealistic to me, as do the flowers, but those I think are cute.
But I like the necklace (the pendant could be a seashell) and the puffy sleeves and the general gown, with the frilly underdress with the both the bodice and the skirt opening to reveal it.

You should have just made the dress ariel XD...from what i understand they literally invented a new shade of green for her tail and they called it ariel.
