Description
Polish Infantrymen. Pardon the stereotypical "Dumb Polak" fellow in the back.Unlike France and Britain, Poland had experience in modern warfare from fighting against the Soviets and knew how important movement was. That's why cavalry was considered the elite of the army. Trench warfare was never an option.
Nevertheless, when Germany and the USSR started the invasion, the 950,000 Polish soldiers could not stand for long against 2 million Germans, Slovaks and Russians.Germany had superior armor and air support, more than three times than Poland's.
Poland's army, first to fight, never admitted defeat, joined the French, British and Soviet army to fight fascism in Europe.

Indeed ... Polish army was prepared and organised to fight against the Soviet Union

Do you know that there was a chance that Poland would be a part of the Axis camp ?
Hitler wanted Poland as his ally against the Soviet Union (He was a admirer of the great Marshall Piłsudski)
Of course there are a lot of "What if ..." questions but who knows ...Poland lost everything ... and we can add actions of "our allies"

Jest wiele anegdotek tym, że różne cyrki się tam działy
Swoją drogą to muszę przyznać, że choćby nawet książka "Polska i Polacy w propagandzie narodowo-socjalistycznych Niemiec 1918-1945" naprawdę zmienia punkt widzenia na to co się działo w latach 1934-1939
Jednak historia alternatywna, to historia alternatywna ... my wiemy co się stało po jednej decyzji, a prawda jest taki że nikt na miejscu pułkownika Becka nie wiedziałby co dokładnie zrobić
Z resztą zobaczymy jak za 50 lat nowe pokolenia będą mówiły o obecnych wydarzeniach

choć nie ukrywam - od 1935 widoczna jest u nas radykalizacja władzy i nie ukrywam, że bardzie ciekawi mnie to jakby wyglądała sprawa Polski w pakcie Antykominternowskim

Ładnie, ale mundury i wyposażenie z okresu 1939, a chłopak z tyłu trzyma pepeszę. Wtedy jej nie było na wyposażeniu Wojska Polskiego

I know they're 1939 uniforms, that's the reference I used, same for the bayonet. Also, the lad in the back is holding a Mors machinegun.

I'm proud of my Polish heritage, and of their bravery during the war. It's tragic that the country was taken by the Soviets, but I'm glad they won their freedom and independence in 1989, faring well since then.

i would have said german infantery if it wasnt for the helmet and the PPSH, or as i like to call it the puhpush, mostly because of the black collar with the brodery or stars on it. love the details in your drawings

The guy in the back is looking in the barrel of a Mors submachine gun while the guy in the front has a Karabin wz.98a, based on the Gewehr 98.

I never quite understood where the "Polish are so dumb"-stereotype came from.

The Poles continued to fight into the war and were very good soldiers. They were let down by their country's leadership and put in an unwinable situation. I have mixed feelings about your pic.
As a side note, perception of stereotypes makes a difference. During WWI, some italians made a song to build the morale of Italian-American troops called something like "Those Fighting WAPs". They had no idea it was an insult over in the states. They meant well.

This is a great pic..I must say much respect for the Poles very brave bunch, very tenacious. It was unfortunate that the English/French war machine took time to get rolling; we (English) at the time were still re-equipping from WW1 and did not at that time have enough materials/tech to do too much. That said you guys were great to have alongside and imho your forces were pivitol in helping end the war; yourselves and the FFF fought intensely to free your respective nations pre and post DDay and it was a sad affair with the soviets remaining in Poland. I agree that if the great allied machine had managed to get rolling that bit quicker then perhaps things would have ended better for all; but that said from an Englishmans point of view the Polish forces were fantastic.
