Aww, thankyou! This is quite an old pic, but I remember putting REAL effort into it.

I wanted it to be nice, as it was for someone who leant their horse to me for Pony Club camp because my horse went lame at the last minute! I wasn't able to give the pic to her personally, but I heard she loved it.

Just excellent!

I can relate, though. It often does feel like a chore to do art that isn't from your own muse.

But why was it so painful? I'm sorry it was like that...it sucks having to draw something you don't enjoy. Glad you got through it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andpie In reply to lefty59 [2006-09-18 08:43:22 +0000 UTC]

It was painful because I had not desire to draw, but I had to get it done- there was no flow to it. It doesn't really matter.

Omg, you are so good. This is... amazing, to say the least. Do you use any special pencils or anything? Blending pencils, watercolor pencils, etc..? Let me in on your secret!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andpie In reply to Tigeress08 [2006-09-03 07:43:51 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou

This drawing was done with Derwent drawing pencils- I use them for their soft thick cores and natural earth tones.
I also used a random crimson pencil from WH Smith for the headcollar.
I used an obscure brand of blending pencil called "Rembrandt-Splender" from a company called LYRA in Germany.

Derwent? Awesome. I use Derwent graphite drawing pencils for my black & white pencil art

AmandaDrage In reply to andpie [2006-09-03 15:18:22 +0000 UTC]

random comment - I have one of those lyra blender things too! But I can't get it to work for me, it just smudges really weirdly and makes everything grey... obviously you have a good handle on it though

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andpie In reply to AmandaDrage [2006-09-09 07:48:22 +0000 UTC]

I use it to get rid of the white dots of D00M, particularly from dark areas. It also allows me to get smooth colour without building layers up for hours.

It seems to work on all the brands of pencil I own, it makes colours slightly darker and more vivid, but I have never noticed it greying my drawings. Maybe the effect it has varies with the paper you use, I have only tried it with standard printer paper.

On the smudge thing- I use the blending pencil in the same direction as my original colour strokes that way you retain ennough texture to suggest fur. I am careful to keep it on the intended area of colour (eg. light grey horse wearing a havanna bridle, when blending the bridle I never let the tip stray onto the horse) Once I'm done with one area of colour I scrape the stained layyer off the tip of the pencil using my nails.

Err thats about all I've thought of. Hope it was faintly interesting/helpful.

I can't remember what paper I used it on. Will have to try it out again. Thanks so much for the advice!!
