I suppose that, technically, this would be fanart, but Textiles doesn't make a designation like that, and since this IS a textile work... *shrug*Anyway, this is the Chang WuFei plushie that I made and took with me to y-con 2004. Everyone was impressed by his nose, and before anyone else asks: No. he is not anatomically correct. I figured that the nose was adventurous enough.
Chang WuFei is copyright all kinds of people I can't remember.
The plushie, however, is MINE!

The sewing machine is our friend ^_^ though on that one, I still did a lot of the sewing for the head by hand, and of course, I can't use the sewing machine to put his hair on. (I always feel vaguely guilty about stabbing my plushies repeatedly in their skulls as I attatch their hair, but I figure it's better than having them all go around bald 
The next one is made out of muslin, which is *slightly* darker in tone, but not nearly the colour it should be... and finding a decent cloth that actually matches his skin tone is bloody hard-- most of the colours that get into that range are either mottled or just too dark in some way (usually towards the yellow side of the spectrum, and I really DON'T want a jaundiced WuFei...)

Dying is definately an option, but I find it a little intimidating, as I know slim to nill about dying myself. I know that I got to play with batik back in ninth grade, but I don't think I'd want to try batiking his face on while I was futzing with all the other dying, even if that would make a really cool art-doll... hm... anyway, I really don't have the space, knowledge or um... funds to consider anything like that at the moment ^_^;;
Anyway, thanks ^_^ I' might actually have the cheongsam pattern worked out now, which means I need to haul out ye ole sewing machine
