ALS123 — More Charlotte and Basil Sketches

Description Second pic made with GIMP... and I must say, I like it a lot!

So anyway, title pretty much explains it. These sketches have been sitting in my notebook for forever and I've been dying to color them I've changed Charlotte's design a little since I first made her, and I think I'm getting the hang of drawing her.

Up in the left corner she's just smiling slightly. Haha it almost looks like she's patting the seat for you to come sit with her!

In the one beside that, she's probably just discovered a clue before Basil or said something to irritate him, and he replies with the usual "Whatever." They get on each others nerves a lot

The one of them in their fancy clothes is for when they go to a ball... strictly business, I'm sure (If you can't read my chicken scratch handwriting, Basil says "Blasted monkey-suit" referring to his suit of course, to which Charlotte replies "Oh stop whining. At least you don't have to wear a corset." Haha yeah, I couldn't think of anything better)

And of course, their opinions and personalities clash, so the inevitable happens and an all out shout-fest breaks out Don't worry, I'm sure they'll kiss and make up later

So this is really making me want to start on that comic again. Do you guys think it would look good in this style, or is it too messy? I would clean it up better though (need to erase my lines better lol) but I like the sketchiness of it

These are great sketches, Amber! I like the messy look to it because it's not fully meant for production (like a cartoon), but more for fun/doodling on one page. I was never a fan of the color pink, but I like that shade on Charlotte's dress. It's like a darker shade of coral, very subtle and nice. I see the poor girl gets to deal with Basil's snide "Whatever" remark as well. Some things never change with him.

If you've got the time, I'd love to see comic pages of these two.

Aw thanks so much hon! Haha yeah, I was afraid pink would make her look too girly, so I was going for that coral color instead Haha yeah, she's gonna have her hands full in dealing with him. But then again, she's very stubborn herself, so it'll be fun to see them butting heads with each other

Haha yeah, I've neglected that comic for so long! I hope to start on it again soon though, and I may redo those first two pages since I have GIMP now.

The corset bit, if Basil ever did dress in drag for a disguise, he'd know for sure how uncomfortable they are to us women!

Good for you! I know making comics take a long time (done a few before and can relate), so whenever you can, I'd love to see them!

Wow, with this program, it looks for traditional hand drawn than digital. I love it. So this is going to be the same program you will be using from now on? If so, awesome. I simply love the style, so I wouldn't change anything. And I most definitely think you should do the comic again. But I just adore these, especially her and Basil bickering. Too cute.

Thanks! Yeah, I think I will be using this from now on. I do love the way it looks more traditional. And I like that the lines are more smooth, cuz with what I was using before, I had to trace over it with the pen tool on the computer, and since I don't have a tablet, I have to use a mouse, so the lineart was squiggly and not smooth. If that makes sense It's so much easier to just scan the original drawing and color directly on it instead of having to re-trace it. Much less time consuming

Haha well whatever happens, I have a feeling Charlotte will get her way in the end Well, this story with them is gonna take place a few years before the movie, so sadly Dawson won't be in it yet But I actually have another story with Charlotte in it planned for later, and Dawson will be in that one, so. Haha I think he's gonna have his hands full dealing with both of them

Oh yes, and I'm so excited about it! I've got the sketch done! Haha and I cleaned the lines up much better on it, so it won't look as messy Oh goodness, I can't wait to color it and play with the lighting and everything!!!

Ugh me too. So frustrating! Hmm, probably POTO related music, or maybe something instrumental. Something soft and pretty, maybe possibly kinda spooky to go along with the dark shadows and stuff. Definitely gotta have the "Phantom of the Opera" song in there somewhere since that scene inspired the picture

Nice. I love the version with Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler, as well as the one with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. And the version by Nightwish is awesome as well.
