This is an interesting and beautiful piece of artwork. I've read some comments on people saying he looks sad and heartbroken - and I'm not saying they're wrong, but I closely examined his face and what I'm getting is satisfaction.

No, Thor! It's interesting to think of Loki grieving Thor's death, he acts so much like he hates him but I can't help but wonder if Loki would grieve and feel pain if Thor were to die or was thought to be dead. What's most tragic is that Loki would finally understand to late the pain and suffering Thor went through when he thought Loki had died.

So here's what I got from your beautiful piece of art. I was drawn to Loki's face and he looks so heartbroken. So, maybe the scenario in the scene above is similar to what may happen in Thor: the Dark World, where Thor has to come to Loki for help. The bad guy is tough, and when Loki thinks about betraying his brother in the end turns around and helps him. They are alone fighting this bad guy, and they prevail but at the cost of Thor's life. Thor must be buried immediately to ensure that his soul goes forward to Valhalla (the Viking heaven from mythology), and so Loki performs the rights alone, burning the body aboard the ship to send it off in the proper way. To me, Loki's face seems to convey a rich sadness of knowing that he and his brother will never have the chance to have a strong relationship ever again. Nothing else can ever be shared between them, and all hope of recompense between them has been burned up--literally. So Loki is looking up, composing himself for the journey back to Asgard, where he will have to break the news to everyone, and carry the guilt of somehow being part of Thor's death the rest of his life.
I know this was long, but sometimes detail helps with inspiration. Honestly, though, I feel this is great and emotion-stirring as it is.

Well, based on the mythology, Thor died of Jormungandr´s venom... But, when I look at your art, why not make Thor die at Loki´s hands, so then can Loki regret his deed (at least, Loki´s facial expression tells me so)? I imagine that Loki would have gone berserk if something like that happened.

I love this. I'm emotionally centered, so if I'd done this Loki would be on his knees weeping all god-like.
But seriously, gorgeous.

Yeah... I've been thinking of doing it all over again, with better composition and all that jazz. Problem is I'm having a hard time visualizing the concept with fresh eyes (and I really want to keep that burning boat dude) any suggestions welcomed!

Well, in the Marvel comics, Thor died at the end of the 'Fear Itself' cross over series, leaving behind a Child Loki by himself.

And second: Thank you for drawing this to Florence and the Machine! Thanks to you I found out about them and now I cannot fathom how I ever managed to live without them. Thank you.

Hm. You could do the boat at more of a 3/4 angle, and then you'd have more room for kneeling Loki... and maybe you could make the background color deep twilight blue, it goes very well with flame colors.

Ragnarök is never very emotional to read and I just really realized how sad the whole thing really is.
I do not know what you based this off, dear. But I know that it is amazing and I could look at it and cry my eyes out for a long, long time.
