Now, I'm going to do a long description (not well written...)
So, sorry for my silly sense of humor and my 'bad engrish'.
About this image.
Let's go back to 2005, an idea of making a fanart (not vector) arised with the Everybody's fool music video... then died shortly after noticing that, the only reference was some screencaps (not 'good' screencaps)...
Now it's 2007, I wanted to make a vector as a gift to Carolina, I chose Amy Lee as a subject.
Stupid idea uh? Why give an Amy Lee vector to someone that already does the best Amy Lee vectors/vexels out there? Well, it's the intention that matters... no?
The 'Sweet little lie' part from the music video came in to mind...

After crop and resizing the ref. picture, it's time to stress my 5$ mouse: 1st the face, then clothes and finally, hair.
(Feb.1~5) Little by little, lot of refinements were made.
Now it's done, hope you like it.

The "Sweet little lie" is a reference to the video/point of the song, not Amy herself.
She's not sweet as in "cutesy-cuddly," but she IS a good person. She DOES NOT think she's better than everybody else, and she's not MEAN. It's a pretty common misconception about her - she isn't like Brittany Spears, and she doesn't have that widely-"known" attitude that most huge stars gain. She's pretty much just a normal person trapped with a celebrity's rep. (That's actually what the song's about - how fake fame is.)

I second Jiwaraga. I didn't note a whole lot about the overall image (besides the bizarro nature of Amy in that...personality), but when I clicked on your ref image I was amazed. This is what vectorization was created to do in the business sense; make good quality out of something somewhat hopeless.
Gaddam man, you make me ashamed to have dropped an earlier project that had an imaged of the same calibur -_-

it looks like you just traced it, because its easy with vector programs. but i would never know. i do like the face, its painted well. it doesn't look like a vector piece in the face. did you use a different program? it looks cool anyways ^^

Simply put, I just traced it, trying to copy every single detail.
I mean, I didn't used any tools such CorelTRACE or Live Trace, I drew shapes over the reference picture. It was fun, but not 'easy'.
And yeah, the face looks like cheap paintbrush, but that's vector [link] 20~25 shapes and compound paths with different opacity %.
Everything was drawn on Adobe Illustrator, then croped on Photoshop.
