Description ^^ Yay! He's colored! I'm rather pleased with this, especially since he started as nothing but a boredom sketch and coloring experiment. He turned out rather well.

My fourth entry for 's 'lockjaw contest' that ends on my b-day (august 1st ^^). I wanted to do a nice one, and this one is better than the other three (in my own opinion).

Okay, for those that love these retarded things, here are his stats. Have fun...
Btw, his name is 'Gorch' ^^.
----
Name: The Aquarian Hybrid/'Ryosei Joumae-Ago' (in Japan)/aka: 'Turquoise Death'
Specie: Doraganoid
Group: Lockjaw/Lurker (???)
Family: Mammalian
Type: Amphibious
Element: Water/Acid/Electricity
Height: 5' 6"-10' 10"
Length: 30'-75"
Weight: 800-2000 LBS
Description:
Big, mean, nasty, short-tempered, and arrogant are a few words one might hear if asking for a short despriction of the Aquarian Hybrid.

The 'Turquoise Death', or 'Sea Venom' as it has been so accordingly nicknamed, is one of the fiercest hybrid forms between Lurkers and Lockjaws ever discovered. They can grow to being over ten feet from nose to the ground while on all fours. It's enormous size and awkward attributes (such as its tongue and unwebbed crest) caused researchers to attempt to unlock its genetic patterns in hopes of discovering its ethnic origins. Frightening secrets of its bloodline lie in the Aquarian's attributes: the glowing orbs that line its body; its massive jaws; it's strong muscular body; thin figure, and streamlined shape; its incredibly long,, oar-like tail; its venom-secreting fangs; and its snake-like tongue. Each key attribute led scientists to believe the Aquarian to be a hybrid between several species of land, water, and amphibious creatures. But the fiercest of its relatives are the Lockjaws, and perhaps even the Lurkers (this is under great consideration, but many believe it to be nothing but a theory). Their (the Aquarian's) ability to speak (usually several languages), use telepathy, and lock into the 'Mind Web' are the key attributes that emanate its Lockjaw origins. A few other physical attributes linking it to its Lockjaw relatives are its shape, incredibly strong jaw muscles, slitted (often yellow) eyes that glow and have expanding/constricting pupils, and the retractable tail blade often hiding in the base of its tail.

This creature is very elusive. It lives on the bottom of the ocean floor, where the pitch-blackness remains uninviting and unexplored by Man. The body of this creature was only discovered when one was accidentally washed on shore. Before the discovery of the body, the existence of the Aquarian was not much more than a myth. The one found was a pregnant female. The female was dead; how she died remains unknown, but she was injured from what looked like wounds from a tail blade. The two infants were both still inside her when she was discovered but were saved. They had been twins; one male, one female. This proved to be of great value, for the scientists could now study both male and female anatomy. Scientists believe the females come to give birth in shallower waters.

The male and female grew at the same rate until they reached puberty at about seventeen years of age (human). The male lost the skin between his crest, and spiny, poison-ejecting protrusions grew from the back of his head and along his vertebra. The male was a dark turquoise in color with sea-green orbs, and the female was a dark blue with ice-blue orbs. The male grew to be 10 feet tall and 72 feet in length; the female was only six feet tall and 56 feet long. However, much like Lurkers, the female had a larger brain and seemed to learn quicker than the male, whom was also much more aggressive.

Very large compared to a typical Lockjaw, the Aquarian is well capable of killing one. Its enormous size rarely hinders its speed on land or in water like one might think it would. In truth, the Aquarian is just as swift and quick-paced as a 'land dwelling' Lockjaw. Since its skull is nearly four times its cousin’s base size, it can easily clench a Lockjaw's head in its jaws. Its jaws are capable of crushing most anything, and with the added threat of its dagger-like fangs, the Aquarian is no threat to be taken lightly. Its jaws also have a special attribute that caused scientists to ponder on its possible other predecessors. Its bottom jaw (like a snake's) is cracked down the middle. Between this slit, there lies an elastic piece of cartilage, that, when the jaws open wide enough to swallow something too large, will cause the bottom, jaw to widen. Another strange thing about its mouth is its tongue. Unlike the Lockjaws, the Aquarian has a tongue that slides back into a tube-like membrane. Its tongue can stretch far from its mouth, but remains unforked like one might suppose it should. Tiny, barb-like projections line the tongue; scientists believe the tongue is used for smelling and scraping, but they are not positive on all its uses. Its fangs and spines eject a highly potent venom capable of killing more than 500 human men in a drop. Strangely, not only are the Aquarians immune to it, but so do most Lockjaws and a few forms of Lurkers seem to be as well (more Lurker-heritage evidence).

The Aquarian's long, thin tail is used like an oar and propels the creature through the water with incredible ease. The purpose behind its multiple-shaped fins currently remains unknown.

Unlike Lockjaws, the Aquarians only have one top epidermis layer, but they have incredibly thick skin. And, like sharks, they have 'teeth' on the outside of their hide. They cannot grow thicker fur like Lockjaws or Lurkers, but they do have a VERY thin layer of hair covering their body. They have large sweat membranes in their hide which secrete an oily, mucous-like substance that protects their skin from heat (while on land), dirt (when they go back into the water they shed the old mucous layer, thus shedding the dirt and germs from being on land), and has the strange capability of warding off those annoying creatures that try to suck their blood or catch scraps after eating.

The main attribute the Aquarian received from its Lockjaw ancestors is, of course, the tail blade hiding beneath the skin in its tail. The tip of the blade is curved like a fisherman's hook, and is the only part of the blade sticking out of the skin until muscles within the tail thrust the blade outward, revealing its full form and slamming it into prey or opponent with incredible force capable of killing most anything in a well-aimed blow to the chest-cavity (usually used to destroy the heart and/or the lungs).

The final and most referred to trait belonging to this creature are the rows of orbs that line its body. What do they serve for?
1) Light: The orbs glow on will, lighting the way for the Aquarian through the dark and dim waters it often thrives in.
2) Protection: The orbs not only glow, but they give off a continual, faint electric current that surrounds the Aquarian's body. This electric current not only serves to protect the Aquarian from smaller creatures, but it can be increased (like an eel) to stun its prey to make it easier to capture. This electric aura not only works in water, but on land. It is not as strong and only the orbs give off electricity (there is no water to serve as a conductor to make the aura surround the Aquarian's body) and is only strong enough to stun a Lockjaw for a moment's time when touched.
3) Communication: Even though they have the ability to use telepathy, like Lurkers they do not realize it. Aquarians are incredibly intelligent, but they do not fully comprehend their own capabilities. So, like Lurkers, they often use other forms of communication, such as body language. Their glowing orbs often serve as a language form; they blink their lights and emit a high-pitched clicking from their throats, creating a light show with noises similar to a whale's. Watching a conversation between them is a gorgeous and mysterious event to behold.
4) Identification: No two Aquarians have the same aura; each gives off a different electric current, and this signature can be sensed by another's receptors in the skin and mouth (somewhat like a secondary Jacobson's Organ).

Even after studying these creatures for as long as they have, scientists have barely scraped the surface of the Aquarian's structure and thought processing. Even with the help of the Mind Web, the creature's origins and lifestyle remain highly unknown and mysterious. Perhaps one day we shall know as much about the Aquarians as we do Lockjaws and Lurkers (which is still very little).

This is incredible. I love it. One question though, how is it mammalian and also amphibian?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

akarui In reply to shank [2004-07-02 22:45:10 +0000 UTC]

It is a mammal but has some amphibious attributes (example: it has gills/fins/etc).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shank In reply to akarui [2004-07-02 22:50:49 +0000 UTC]

Those are fish traits. Amphibians are like frogs where they spend like half their life in water and like half on land. Wouldn't they also be reptilian? Aquarians are just a bunch of stuff aren't they then? Interesting...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

akarui In reply to shank [2004-07-02 23:05:36 +0000 UTC]

The females spend more life on land than the males do, but they spend a good bit of time living on the beach or in swamps. Not all Aquarians live in the deep ocean/sea, some thrive quite well in swamps or on land (with lakes close by, of course, so they can bathe, etc). They court most often in the water, then they are birthed on land, where they spend most their time until they reach maturity. They then swim to sea/ocean/swamp/whatever, court, and the circle continues. They prefer the water but can live on land just as easily. Their skin does not always have to be wet like an amphibians does.

They are mammals because of all their mammalian attributes. They are classified as mammals for producing milk, giving live birth, have a backbone, have fur, etc, etc... They are not repltiles, but can be classified as reptilian: it all depends on how you classify creatures.
