I'm pretty sure the aphid on the left is dead...
...lots of my cultured aphids wound up looking like that when I tried to feed them insecticide'ed French Bean plants.

Dead aphids discolour, usually to black (natural causes/some parasitoid wasps) or brown (icky fungal infection). Trust me: I've seen (and accidentaly killed) a lot of these guys during the course of my degree. But I tend to work with Pea (dark green), Bean (light green) and Bird Cherry (green-grey) aphids, and there's always that one exception...

1st rule of science: never draw assumptions that are not supported by a sufficiently large data set.

They also come in pink... (look up A. pisum)
