If you haven't been reading the new Star Wars novels this wont make any sense to you.Let's just say I am pretty irritated with Jacen Solo now.

Thanks. The authors wasted such a great character. They should have made him something between good and bad and have him leave the order. This way he is a lone wolf that could be brought in and out of the books. What a waste.

It's crappy characters and stories by emo writers like that, that I refuse to read any EU that takes place after Return of the Jedi. Totally ruins the movies >.<

I know. And for the life of me I cannot remember if the meaning of the tassels were ever explained in the books. Was it just a ploy to get Jacen on the path to the darkside, or was it an actual artifact. I can't remember. All I remember is Jacen is an idiot.

I know. What is really depressing to me is I am currently reading the Young Jedi Knights books to my young sons and they love the adventures of Jacen and Jaina. They are really going to be disappointed to find out how this all ends... I know I did.

I realize only now I based a character in one of my fan fictions slightly off of Jacen. His name is Jason ironically. Sacrifice is the same, but the way things go is FAR different.

Jesus. Jacen is such an asshole in the books now. The EU was utterly ruined for me when I walked into Wal-Mart one evening and saw the paperback of "Inferno", and read the publisher's summary on the back, where it mentioned that Mara is dead. I went back home and surfed good old Wookieepedia to make sure that she was actually dead. At that point, I totally lost any faith in the writers of the EU (except Tim Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole), and I absolutely hate whoever made the final decision to kill Mara, and all those who came up with the idea in the first place. Karen Traviss may be a great writer in regards to Republic Commando, but there is no forgiveness from this one when she/they kill(s) off the absolute coolest character in the EU for some lukewarm excuse of a "sacrifice" (I say this because I read that she was the one who wanted to get rid of her). Everything from "Star By Star" in the storyline is total s*** to me now, because Anakin was my favorite character in the NJO.
Gaw. That felt good to let out. And excellent illustration. This one totally agrees with the sentiments expressed in the image and by the majority of people here, and is extremely happy that Jacen's own sister got the honor of taking his slimy, worthless life.

I agree--Mara should never have died. I think Jacen's cold bloodly killing that other Jedi on that Sith Asteroid was more than enough to push him to the darkside. He didn't need to kill Mara. And even if he needed to do something more horrible to make him Sith he could have seriously wounded Mara and had her in a Bacta tank with a head injury or something if you wanted to keep the secret that he was Sith for a while longer.
In my opinion Jacen should have never been turned to Sith. Vergere should have never been made into a Sith. I mean I could think of a couple story lines that would have been much more interesting.
I still think Jacen should have been lifted up to a higher Jedi level so he was almost like the Kwisatz Haderach from Dune. He is good, but his morals may conflict with the rest of the Jedi order. He is willing to kill innocents to save thousands of others. And because his actions stop a catastrophe from happening... how do you know if the killing of innocents are justified? People are not going to shrug their shoulders and say "Okay, go ahead and kill my son since you know he will become an evil dictator that destroys a world ten years from now." It doesn't matter how many Jedi visions he has that are proven correct, people just can't stomach preemptive killings.
I would think it would make Luke and the other Jedi much more conflicted as to what to do with him. He could have been some sort of vigilante jedi or what some fanfic writers would call a "Grey" Jedi (willing to do bad things for the overall good).
But for some stupid reason we have Mara dead and Luke a broken man. Star Wars books will never recover from this. I think the readers are tired of all the death.
I realize these books set us up for the Legacy Comics, but I don't think that storyline is strong enough to keep the Star Wars books interesting enough to be successful.
What I would like to see now is books that go back into time and perhaps fill in the gaps. Maybe a book that takes place right after the Comic Union.
I think it would be very interesting to see how Luke and Mara interact after their marriage... especially since they never had a formal courtship and it was like a Force-induced shotgun wedding.
It had to be strange for two people who barely tolerated each other to now be married.
But I guess that is what fanfiction is for.

I read something on deviantART...the person said that Darth Krayt is Ben turned to the dark side decades later? Do you know anything about that? If that IS true, then I'm going to resort to a preemptive killing of the people at Del Rey or where ever so they can't kill off or ruin any more characters...Ben is so cool. And, of course, Mara. Now the entire EU is marred because even when you're reading the books set before LOTF, you know that she's going to die because of her own nephew, and that kinda ruins it for me

It would be sweet if a cadre of authors got together and did an entirely new storyline that started from Edge of Victory and just went on without the freaking killing off of Anakin and Mara. It wouldn't be accepted as canon, but it would be fun to indulge in a little fantasy.
As for the comments, it's absolutely no trouble; it was a good opportunity to see an hilariously awesome and satisfying pic and read the awesome comments it spawned

No, Ben is not Darth Krayt. I actually made up a painting where he was, but that was just me guessing before we found out his true identity. I don't want to spoil it for everybody, but you can Google Darth Krayt and Wookiepedia will tell you who it is. I will give you a hint... it is somebody from Tatooine.
