Description I decided to get the new version of Terragen and tinker around with it. The new layout is really a change in gears, there's so much I still don't understand. Some things make absolutely no sense at this point but others are starting to become clear as I delve into the program. So far the water controls are lacking but the clouds are way better. This was the focus of what I was aiming for, better cloud formations. The surface texturing is also far better, much less fiddling with goofy settings. I'd like to do further work with the program and push myself far greater than this. First serious render where I sorta understood what I was doing, next one should be a more legitimate render.

Thank you. I'm still learning the new controls but what I've seen so far from Terragen, the new version can be very photo realistic. Takes a lot of work and more understanding than what I have at the moment though.

That is an amazing render! I do Terragens (v 0.943), but I honestly thought this was a photo--until I read your description. This is wonderful!

hmmmm! new TG!
I had a real tough time deciding whether or not to persue TG2...

An old artist friend of mine said that I better practise with sketching, brushing and painting sceneries and one fine day I wont be needing any terragen

Aeires In reply to Swaroop [2007-03-20 14:21:05 +0000 UTC]

The new TG is so close to photography it's scary. If you plan on doing photo-realistic work, I'd at least download the trial and check it out. If you plan on doing more fantasy, sci-fi work, paintings might be better served. Although, you can render planets in TG2, just haven't figured out how, but when I do, you'll see a terraspace image from me.

Since i am new to your gallery and I don't know what you do, here I thought this was a photo very well done! I can't wait to see what you come up with, once you really know and understand the program you used to do this.

Thank you. The photo-realism they built into the new version is really incredible. Hope to get a chance to delve into this program more soon.

Breath taking view. I have the newer version of Terragen, but I find it hard to understand. So I am sticking with the older one. Until the second version comes out with a better tutorial on how to "use" it.

I feel the same way but the quality keeps me digging. Tutorials are so badly needed, I feel like most of what I do is pure accident.

Thanks, I googled it a week ago. Unfortunately, I haven't found any time to figure it out. I spend my computer time on Maya (real hard-core 3D with no cheat or easy way...) but maybe I could learn over the summer, we'll see.

I would say, don't buy Maya if you can't get a decent class about it. It has many options, and it will take you years to figure it all out.

Yep, Terragen is a 3D program because it deals with all three axis planes when creating the image. Thanks.
