Thanks so much for the daily deviation!This character started out as a sketch in my sketchbook. As some can tell, I have a passion for underwater creatures and environments. This was an experiment in Photoshop as far as painting techniques. The character is my own work, but the background is a manipulated photograph I found on google (note: this is the first and only work I used a photograph - after completing this, I decided it would be more rewarding to paint the background myself).
This creature is part of a species I am creating. They have a story that I will reveal through my future illustrations! One day I may start a graphic novel, but only once I have a developed style...

anyway.... holy crap! he's like the cool looking cousin that the creature of the black lagoon has always been secretly jelous of!

thanks ^_^ - first i sketch it in my sketchbook with pen, then scan it into the computer and then i paint it in photoshop! - id like to try painter soon.. but i dont have enough money to buy it ;_;

I love the amphibian creature. I must say my favorite part about "him" is "his" face. Its expression is incredible.

You know, I didn't notice those darned lines until you mentioned them. xD
Anyhoo, I really love the originality of this piece. I sure wouldn't mind a transparent skull, and even a beard reminiscent of Davy Jones' if I could swim around like I'm sure that guy does.
I also appreciate the amount of skill it took to make the skin look transparent and slick like it does. Very effective!

What an interesting creature! And you did this in only six hours?? It would probably take me six days at the least! You should definitely make up a background story for him, like maybe his species once dominated the seas as humans dominate the land, but what few are left have been driven into hiding by human activity.

i like the brown lines! and i especially like the floaty white bits. personally, i would add a some refractions from the light on the water's surface or some bubbles. he kind of looks like he's floating in the air instead of swimming.

I... wow. I have no problem with the brownish lines, to start.
I like the flattened hands and feet... they're truly amphibious appendages, not just hands and feet with some finny extras. The brain casing (for lack of a better word) is beautiful. My roommate and I disagree on whether or not it looks semitransparent, but it doesn't really matter, either way is spectacular.

haha, I knew it. Perhaps if you're looking at names you could start looking at word bases for aquatic related words in old languages, or not even old, maybe just obscure rarely spoken languages.

And no, the background is not my favorite part XD haha! the actual creature, concept, colors, feel, and of course dynamic feel of the pose!
The lighting is good also, but I am eager to see your improvements on lighting in your works to come!
