Behold, the cover artwork for EMPOWERED: NINE BEERS WITH NINJETTE, the latest one-shot installment of my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy" series published by Dark Horse Comics. The main story in NINE BEERS WITH NINJETTE features beautiful artwork by guest artist Takeshi Miyazawa, best known in the US for his Marvel work on Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane and Runaways, as well as his long-ago debut on the Oni Press superhero-school series Sidekicks. More recently, he's drawn honest-to-Gawd manga in Japan, such as the Capcom game-tie-in series Lost Planet: Bound Raven. For this cover illo, he drew everything but the Empowered figure at left, which is my line-art contribution to the image. The cover's pretty, pretty colors were painted by the great Christina Strain, who once colored Takeshi's line art for Runaways covers back in the day.

Kick back and have a cold one with hearty-partying Ninjette, Empowered’s Best Friend Forever, as she weaves a boozy yet poignant tale of ninja magic, complete with fighting, flirting, and swing-dancing with the Maidman—not to mention the outwitting of ’Jette’s monstrous thug of a father. Drink up!

just picked this baby up today... haven't been to comic shop in a couple weeks so i'm a bit late on it. anyway, it's got me hoping for an empowered anime or something again... come on, adam! we NEEEEEEEEEED an empowered anime/cartoon. it's just asking for it! don't make me beg and cry big, sobby man tears! i will if i have to!

Gotta say, unless you actually pre-order a relatively obscure book like Empowered from your Local Comics Store—or let 'em know in any way that you're interested in the title at all—they're just not that likely to carry the book.
On the other hand, I was so buried under Empowered vol.8's crushing deadline that I utterly failed to alert any readers on deviantART when they needed to pre-order Nine Beers with Ninjette, a problem that is unquestionably my fault alone. I shall endeavor to do better in this department with the next one-shot, for whatever that's worth.

I just found it strange that I walked to two (2!) stores and they didn't have it. I was like, "This is Adam Warren! What do you mean, 'We didn't order it'?" *sigh* Some people wouldn't know good comics if it bit 'em on the butt. Ha!

yeah... i hear you... my comic shop will special order sometimes and i think i got them into actually ordering the 1-shots when i asked them to special order the first one i believe. now they get them every time... thank goodness! especially when i don't always keep tabs on the releases and i'm pleasantly surprised when one pops up.

For the 5th, it may be because the french edition was cancelled after volume four ...

Another great entry in the one-shot series - I really hope that it will lead to even more in 2014. Having one a few times a year keeps the series fresh and accessible and makes the waits between volumes bearable!
Nice to get insight into 'Jette - starting to tie some of her history together and keeps raising interesting new questions too.
