Helga Pataki doing what she does best: obsessing. How many journals has she filled with poems already?
Helga remains one of my favorite characters of all time...I could write a dissertation on all the reasons she's so interesting. Poor twisted, warped little girl with no love at home latches onto the first person who shows her kindness - Arnold - but is so terrified of being rejected that she constantly torments him, thus protecting her outlet for love while simultaneously sabotaging her desperate quest for acceptance and affection. She's so emotional yet so cynical, so empathetic yet so callous, so poetic yet such a damn bully...ugh, I just love her contradictions.

Everything you said is what made me love her just like the next fan, when normally I can't stand such characters in cases where they lack backstories that Helga has. i.e.: Cindy.
If her history was more clearly explained (particularly in a similar manner, I realize its shown subtly in eps such as Out, Darn Spotlight) where I'd have had to be a complete dolt not to understand it during the first watching of the show, BEFORE all the JC-ness wacked me in the head with JTPH2 (yup, I watched random episodes until I found the number list, so I had yet to see Stranded or the rest of it), then I might've been more open-minded to the idea. But hardly any sympathy was shown to me on her behalf (keep in mind Jimmy has always been my fave, so I was seeing things from his POV), unless one simply had her as the favorite, & clearly THAT didn't happen with me, therefore......... =_=
But Helga on the Couch is still a favorite, & while I've yet to watch the entirety of the series (God my watch-list is long, but these darn mood swings!), I doubt that'll change. JUST when I think "ok....... seriously?" she just, GETS me again. <3
However, all that love for Helga in SO many fans, YET people who know Professor Snape's own from book 7 (I don't know if you've gotten past number 5, so I'll spare the spoiler)........ its like WHTFGCJUTIL NO, JILLY IDIOT. =_=

they actually are the same names (Helga is a derivative of Olga in Old Norse). The whole joke there as that the parents loved Olga so much and only cared about her, that they couldn't even bother coming up with a new name for their second daughter. They just named her Helga, which is a version of Olga.
