2DForeverAfter having some Jet Set Radio (JSR) music stuck in my head, I decided to have a quick go on the original Dreamcast game… Four hours later I fully remembered why it’s one of my favourite games of all time!
The characters of JSR really stand out for me, one of my favourites being Gum, shown here. She mostly looks moody, but throws you a cheeky smile and a wink now and then. It strangely says a lot about her. I just wanted to capture some of that here while also doing the fan service to JSR.
As for the picture itself, I wanted it to have a hint of the cartoony cel-shading used in the game, but without it being too flat. I say it every time, but I like it when I keep my outlines in the final piece and it still looks ok!

I was in Gamestop a few days ago, saw some Sega All stars racer game, bought it, and unlocked Beat in it on a whim and then showed him to a friend, that friend showed me JSR and JSRF, and i gotta say: I missed out.
i love JSR & JSRF and Gum here is a nice breath of fresh air to any one who, like myself, prefers to play as a female character! instafaved!

I cant play JSR yet, but i will get the ability to soon, so i'm making do with JSRF, and man alive i did miss out. Beat is just too much fun.
JSRF's 99th street is my grind-away territory.

The original is a bit different (you can't grind your way through every part of the level!) but somehow I feel it to be a bit more fun. But it might just be nostalgia for the original. I'm sure you'll enjoy it either way!

i actually dont like to grind my way around town, i usually take my time and enjoy the scene, so that's a boon to me indeed.

I remember actually not liking this character at first. But then she became one of my favs.. next to Jazz, that is.. but I loved almost all of the characters, because they all had their own personality and style all unique on their own. I feel that you really captured all of that for Gum here.

Yeah, I'm not too fussed about getting that one though. I have a perfectly working Dreamcast version that I sitll enjoy!
The only things that were exclusive to the Japanese one that I'm aware of is some slightly different music and Japanese voices, I didn't think there was anything else?

yarr i was wrong with the two stages, those 2 were actually in the us and eur versions and later added to a re.release in japan
i still have the old dreamcast too but a hd version sounds interesting and i play the dreamcast games now froim time to time via emulator instead on the real console...but have the pc connected with the tv in the living room and play with a ps2 dualshock pad
btw since you are still a SF fan i guess [link] ..over 200 artists worked/work on that somewhen next year i will probably start a Sega related project
