Do NOT click on the link in the post or the link in the post following this! It leads to a fake page asking for your deviantart account password.

If you do accidently end up doing this, change your password immediately.

It would probably be best to just hide those two posts.

Thank you so much for visiting my booth at sugoicon in the artist's alley! It means a lot that you took the time to write your name in!

Hope to see you at future cons!

Thanks for stopping by. I loved your little sushi pieces! I plan to come back, I may get a booth for origami. Depends if I can pull myself away from the other activities XD.

that would be really cool if you'd sell really intricate little origami sculptures or something like that! Are you planning on showing people how to fold the paper into certain shapes, too?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mistro In reply to ichibankasa [2008-11-06 23:57:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I was thinking of some anime characters or creatures from japanese mythology. I might be able to teach a little, but it'd have to be mostly simple figures.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ichibankasa In reply to mistro [2008-11-07 00:47:20 +0000 UTC]

it would be really cool if you painted on the paper once it was folded! Like your pokemon ones: paint on pikachu's eyes and cheeks; stuff like that!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mistro In reply to ichibankasa [2008-11-07 21:20:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they'd be easier to recognize that way. I could ask a colleague of mine how to apply accrylic to them, that way they last a lot longer than average paper.

now I'm curious! I can't wait to see what you'll come up with! (also: perhaps spraypaint too?)

mistro In reply to ichibankasa [2008-11-08 00:20:49 +0000 UTC]

Possibly haha. I might also make a few cosplay pieces, like Yuffie's Orikata weapon. I also design those tab and glue papercraft models, was thinking of making Gene Starwind's Caster Gun from Outlaw Star.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ichibankasa In reply to mistro [2008-11-08 01:21:29 +0000 UTC]

THAT WOULD BE SO COOL. I love awesome papercraft models. I personally like cute ones (for example, models from a simple-looking game like katamari are easy enough to design, like the square sumo wrestlers lol)

And origami weapons are a really good idea. I know it's overdone, but a good seller would be those naruto weapons... they look a lot like yuffie's weapon... Would you make that really big, like in the game?

mistro In reply to ichibankasa [2008-11-08 02:07:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've done one of the prince before. I've got templates for the castle from Howl's Moving Castle and the Highwind from FF VII, but I think I'll stick to weapons or accessories for papercraft. Its both accurate and lightweight, though delicate, a good (and cheaper) option compared to wood and metal. I also like to get intricate, I'd like to make them moveable, like being able to load the caster gun and whatnot.

I could make them about any size depending on the design. I was on prom committee in highschool, in charge of paper decorations and teaching origami to the art classes. We had a military tank parachute covering the canopy of the gym, and the centerpiece had a 6 foot modular flower with a display around it.

ichibankasa In reply to mistro [2008-11-09 17:13:48 +0000 UTC]

WAH! this is way cool. I just can't get over it. And the moveable papercraft... I never see anything like this at conventions, mostly just illustration booths. It would definately be something different and unexpected!

Quick question on backcoating with Unryu paper....

I've found a great source for this paper, but they only have it available in translucent white. Would adding food coloring to the Methyl Cellulose work as an effective means of coloring the paper?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

chosetec In reply to NaciremaDiputs [2007-06-04 21:52:36 +0000 UTC]

try using gouache diluted with water, sometimes I mix that with methyl cellulose.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

mistro In reply to NaciremaDiputs [2007-05-27 14:44:45 +0000 UTC]

I have never tried that, but I don't think it would work very well for coloring the paper. Methylcellulose has a clear, nearly mucus-like consistancy when made for backcoating, they sometimes use it in the movies with coloring as ectoplasm, alien goo, etc. MC also drys nearly invisible and very thin. Its worth a try though.

thanks for all the info and stuff ^_^

i have one question at the moment, and that is can I bring anyone with me, like friends or family?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mistro In reply to KamiWasa [2007-05-20 18:45:18 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome of course .

Yes, you can bring a guardian with you free of charge (for form see [link] ). How many I'm not sure of. You can e-mail "convention2007@origami-usa.org" to find out.

I brought my mother with me the first time, but she went to visit Macey's and the Empire State Building when she was bored. The only requirement for a guardian, is that they cannot fold, recieve the Survival Kit, or take part in classes. Otherwise they would have to purchase membership and pay the assorted fees.

Where are you planning to stay at? Hotel Pennsylvania I can't recommend... The dorms are decent, but rooms usually house 4 people. You can list the persons you will room with on the form though, such as your guardians. The dorm rooms go quick, so make sure to send in the form as soon as possible.

Oh, well thats fine I'm sure. You might miss out on some late night folding, but you'll get the overall view of the con anyway (and save a few hundred bucks ). It figures Strongbadia would be in Jersey...(just kidding, I've heard its not as bad as most people say ).

Remember that contest of yours that you held at 2k pageviews, where if you were the 2000th, then you would do a request? I think I know what I want, now.

As if I couldn't get anymore cliche'd, I'd like a Demon-Tiger.. yes, I said it. Something to bask in the likeness for all time. That is, unless you're busy with something else.

Thanks a lot in advance, even if you don't make it.. (by the way, my second choice would be some dready guy )
