Lyserg is a guy. He looks really girly both in the anime and manga.
Hiroyuki Takei (creator of Shaman King) has made him look like a girl which leads to a funny scene between Ryu and Lyserg. Ryu mistakes him for a girl and wants to protect that "cute person" but after finding out that Lyserg is a guy he is first shocked and later on he doesn't mind about. xD

Sometimes anime characters really like to play tricks with me, it's not bad, it's just... Hiroyuki Takei is a cruel person.
I think I've heard of that show before, I have no idea why I didn't look into it more. When I look for a shounen I'll be sure to keep Shaman King in mind, it sounds like quite a fun show. Thanks for recommending it!

Shaman King is pretty funny although I recommend the manga. The anime is close to the manga in the beginning but it's rather rushed and has completely different story line. The anime only has 64 episodes. If you ever feel bored you should give it a try.
