One needs/wants suggestions and tips to hone their skills.

If it is trite, I will say it is. I say what I think and feel - I have a right to respond negatively. I won't lie to you, I consider that a gift. Would you rather I lie?

If you were a careful reader you'd notice that I was talking in past tense.
I'm talking about the poem. You don't really matter. The poem is what makes things matter. Writing good poetry is what makes people care about insignificant things or question things they don't normally think about - or want to think about.
Don't take everything so personally. It leads to anxiety and heart problems. That and it's the first hinderance to learning how to write better. You do care about what you write don't you?
