HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!!!!!!
According to DA, it is your birthday... hopefully you'll see this within a reasonable amount of time for birthday wishes (with my luck, you'll be seeing this about a month later ).

Yay !! Aw man, I have been so busy lately ! As soon as this semester is over, we really need to hang out sometime ! Finals are quickly approaching for me, and I'm gonna have to nearly kill myself studying, and preparing, and trying to meet deadlines for my art class, but as soon as that's over with, I need to catch up with basically everyone 'cuz I feel like I've been a very antisocial person lately . Hopefully we'll remedy that soon .
Also...
HI PHIL !!!!!

Hey, what is up ? Good news... I passed all my stuff last semester and took a psychology course for about three weeks and now I've finally gotten myself a bit of free time ! What have you been up to ? Are you going to start out at Parkland or are you headed somewhere else right off the bat ?

Hey, long time no see ! How's EIU? Things have been going okay over here... I mean my classes could be better (specifically the math one) but for the most part all's well . I didn't take any art classes this semester, so it's been rough... but I'm still drawing stuff in my free time, and most of it is still Homestuck . Parkland is kind of boring... I mean, more so than it probably should be . I still haven't made a single new friend, and there's only one old friend that I talk to on a regular basis while I'm there. I'm really thankful for Chuck's habit of kidnapping everyone on the weekends so that we all get to see each other... I'd have no social life if it weren't for that . Otherwise I've been an internet hobo, stalking tumblr blogs even though I don't have one myself and stuffing my head with a bunch of interesting youtube videos . Have you ever heard of the Vlogbrothers ? They're brothers that live far away from each other, so they make weekly videos in order to communicate in a creative sort of way, and their stuff just kind of unexpectedly attracted a lot of attention 'cuz they're entertaining as heck and they do a whole bunch of amazing stuff all the time. Here's a good place to start ==> [link] if you'd like to .
So yeah... happy belated Thanksgiving... and merry Christmas and happy New Year's 'cuz those are happening soon .

Hey I was just thinking... you should come over to my place sometime and scan some stuff ! I just noticed that all the stuff you've put up so far is pictures of things you've done, and scanning them would make them look much cleaner and much easier to see . I'm leaving for art camp on the 10th (I think), and I'll be back by the 16th, but after that I think this needs to happen .

Sounds good to me ! I'm also going to attempt to write journals on what's going on at art camp whenever I can while I'm there . It's mostly for the sake of people like Madison who went last year but aren't going this year . There are at least two other art camp friends on DA that I know won't be going this year as well, and I think it'd be nice to keep 'em posted .

manga-kat In reply to Inuyama777 [2011-07-19 22:05:31 +0000 UTC]
Heh, yeah, I only got one journal entry posted while I was away at camp, but there wasn't a whole lot of stuff to report . We were at a different dorm this year, and while the rooms were nicer, the food was much worse . Only two of my friends from last year were there, and we met one new person this year. Usually we'd hang out in my room 'cuz it was the nicest, and I didn't end up having a roommate 'cuz I signed up to room with another friend who didn't come. That is until Izzy decided to come live in my room (perfectly fine by me) 'cuz her roommate wanted to have a sleepover with her own friends and basically gently kicked her out . As for the actual projects, I didn't really get done with/like any of them . For the monotype project you had to do a sketch, trace it onto plexiglass with a grease pencil, then flip over the plexiglass and paint inside the lines that you drew on the other side before laying down that and a piece of paper and pressing it. Of course, the paint had to be applied to the plexiglass all in one class period or it would dry before you could press it, so everyone else was either rushing to get done or at loose ends. I on the other hand, was rushing from start to finish 'cuz she had us sketching on huge paper, and I ended up having to scale down my sketch so it would fit onto the plexiglass. Then the drawing thing was stupid at me 'cuz the teacher had us doing quick drawings with all the different materials for the first two or three days before actually telling us what our project was going to be. The altered book thing might've been okay had the teacher not given away my book by accident on the second day of classes. All I had really done was taken out four sections of pages so that the book would still close once I had thickened up the pages that I'd be using for my project, but I still had to re-do it after that. Anyway, those were my complaints about the classes, none of which are relevant now that it's over . Sorry for ranting or whatever . Anyway, I hope we can get something set up soon !

Sorry I haven't been on DA for a couple weeks.
Anyway, I will answer all ur messages in this one .
I have heard so much about Hanna from Maddocious. Sometimes it seems like it was all she talked about lolollol.
So I take it that you had fun at camp? Sounds fantastic (except the food and that girl getting kicked out of her room ). I'm thinking about going to EIU for college very strongly. THey had a flash mob during orientation. And they have whAT I want: major in ART and a double minor in CREATIVE WRITING and FILM/VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTS.
And YES hanging out with you is one of the top things on my to-do list. Unfortunately I have marching band camp all next week 9a.m. to 5 or 6p.m..

Aw that's alright... I haven't been doing a lot of art lately and I've been kind of sort of putting off answering a ton of my messages . Dunno why really... it's just this oddly sudden aversion .
Oh gosh I remember how obsessed she was with it at first . I was too (still am) but I sort of tried not to bombard people with it if they'd already heard us talking about it and still weren't interested . Right now it's killing me though 'cuz the creator, *vert-is-ninja , has been offline for six months now without any explanation ! I'm still in full-on OBSESSION mode here, so the wait is almost painful... but I'm not like some people... if you check her profile, the comments are a ceaseless stream of everything from "I hate you for leaving us hanging" to "I really hope you're not dead or terminally ill" . Still, six months of absolutely no new cannon material and no promises of there ever being any more and I'm still obsessed... I've got it bad .
Sorry for the rant .
Anyway, I'm also gonna be gone the 13th through the 17th... two days for the Chicago comic convention and the rest for going to visit a friend who lives in Olney from the first two EIU art camps before this one ! Jeez... finding time is just becomming really difficult all of a sudden... what's up with that ?! Anyway, I take it you went to the orientation (or did you just hear about it )? Flash mobs are so awesome... I want to be present for one sometime ! Have you seen the art building yet ?! They have a whole stairwell that has walls that you can draw on with chalk !

I went to EIU for a college visit. I was at the flash mob and it was AWESOME! And yes I have been in the art building. It's amazing!!! So many mirrors and the bathrooms are so clean! It's amazing! And the walls where you can draw on with chalk is so so so cool! Plus the air conditioning is faaaaaaabulous! I really really want to go there. :joy:

manga-kat In reply to Inuyama777 [2011-08-08 01:36:40 +0000 UTC]
...and you saw the red room right ?! I love that place too, but I've said it many a time... my prior experiences at art camp there were, if nothing else, at least more productive than this last time . Still, I can totally attest to the air conditioner's fabulousness... the temperature was well above 90 degrees that first day (it was down to 80 degrees and possibly a bit lower by the end of the week), and we had to walk back and forth between the art building and the dorms every single day so, yeah... every time we walked in there, we felt that air conditioning like we had never felt it before ! Still, that's better than the several band camps that our dorm was also playing host to... they had to stand around in the hot sun all day . Oh, did you get to see any of the dorms around there ? Specifically, Carmon Hall or... I think it was... Andrews... this time . Anyway, those are the only two dorms that I'm familiar with . Did you get to see the library (the one right next door to the art building)? That's where everyone would go to print out images for the button maker, and then you'd just carry 'em right across the way and climb up this giant concrete staircase where there was a door into the craft room right there at the top ! This year people used up all the button materials on stupid little pictures that they cut out of magazines, and stick figures and junk within the first three days ! I only got to make one button that I thought was any good (two total ). Comparatively speaking, there was very little obsessive behavior this year... I live on obsessive behavior, and I was looking forward to not having to display said obsessive behavior alone... but there was some, and I especially loved the one night where (I kid you not) Amanda (friend from art camp) and I did not sleep over the course of two full days ! That was so dang fun !!

Whoa. Not sleeping for two days? My sympathy. lol.
Idr which halls i visited but I've already been in Andrews I think it is b/c thats where my sister stays.
I didn't get to go to the library unfortunately but i have been in there b4. I def want to go 2 EIU. Major in art and double minor in creative writing and film studies. lol hell yes!
I can sympathize with the marching band people. I just did my last band camp week last week which was nothing like last year thank god. it was up in the 100s last year!!! it was awful.
btw, im getting a camcorder soon hopefully and i want to make a trailer to one of my stories. wanna help me with it?

WHOO HOO!!!! 18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And man, I am so BAD about getting on Deviant Art. GAH!!!!
Okay, at the time I sent u that msg I can't remember which trailer I wanted to do (probably Mirror Moon, my world war III story about a heartless assassin, a deadly romance and a mysterious experiment that's on the verge of scientific history if it doesn't kill them all first).
The other possible trailer(s) is Maleficent's Daughter or Katsura of Black Dreams.
Maleficent's Daughter [intro]:
'What if the faerie tales were true? What if there was a knight in shining armor who always saves damsels in distress? But what if you were the daughter of their villain?'
Katsura of Black Dreams [intro]:
'There's a killer on the loose, leaving a mass of violent murders in it's wake. But Kat is left particularly uneasy, especially when the killer is her subconscious.'
Want me to elaborate?

Actually I handled the sleeplessness quite well... and I even stayed up later than anyone else the next night too !! I find that once I get into the habit of not sleeping, it becomes really easy, and especially when I have friends to occupy my time with .
I didn't like the food at Andrews as much, but the rooms were way nicer ! The library was actually a tad more hospitable this time around 'cuz somehow there were less grouchy college students in the computer rooms to get all mad at us when we were being loud and obnoxious . Okay so we really weren't all that bad... but we could laugh this time ! I'll officially be at Parkland this fall and I've only got three classes lined up for the semester ahead ('cuz I'm still looking for a part-time job to fill the rest of my schedule ). I've got one math class that's really short but goes five days a week during mid-morning, and two art classes... one in the early afternoon on Mondays and Wednesdays, and one in the evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays . All in all, not a bad deal. Also, the only book I'm gonna need is for math, but it isn't really a book... it's a piece of cardboard encased in plastic with numbers on it that allow you to access a computer program that feeds you the information... and the thing cost us $75.00 ! Also, once the class had run its course the thing becomes useless, and it's non-refundable once you've broken the plastic seal... even if you end up dropping the class . I kinda hate it, but it's the only thing I'm gonna need for this whole semester, so I guess it's alright .
Also, I went to the Chicago Comic Convention !! I bought a dead pacman ghost plush toy, and one of those green piggies from angry birds, and some graphic novels (my shelf is so darn close to being officially out of space ), and a box set containing the entire collection of Samurai Champloo episodes... all 26 of them !! I can't even say how much I love the animation style in that thing... ! The rest of my convention experiences are outlined in my latest journal entry if you're really all that interested ....
Anyway, yes I would like to help with this trailer project of yours ! I want to plan a thing where we can all get together sometime in the near future anyway, 'cuz my schedule wouldn't allow me to do that during the time frame of my birthday. BTW I'm 18 years old now... WHUT ?!??!! I mean legal adulthood... says who ?!! I do not feel adult-ish . At all. Whatever... the point is that that'll give us an excuse to actually see eachother and talk for the first time since the graduation party (seriously, it's been that long ). In the meantime, do you mind my asking what this story is about ? I'm all curious now !

manga-kat [2011-06-26 21:51:16 +0000 UTC]
Hey, I was just wondering... what do you usually do for the 4th of July ? I ask because I was wanting to get some people together to watch the fireworks as a group ! My family and I always go out to where they're shooting the fireworks off (which is Dodd's field out near Parkland) and we usually set our stuff up near that little structure that houses the restrooms and where they sell snacks during soccer games... all it'd take is convincing our various families to set up near eachother for this to work . Of course... I tried this last year and it didn't work so well... by the time I found everyone, their families had all set up a long way away from us and I couldn't get my own family to move our stuff that far . This year I'm trying to start planning earlier though !
...but if you've already got something planned that's okay too, it's not a huge deal .

Omg you'll never believe what I dreamed abt recently! We were roommates at SAIC and ate a shitload of Chinese food and pizza and our room was covered in artwork. It was awesome!!!!

Wait... what's SAIC stand for ?
Anyway, I like the part about the pizza and chinese food ! I will always crave those simultaniously (whenever I happen to be craving them ).
BTW, two questions for you. One, do you want me to send you a list of the people on DA that I know from art camp ? I mean, not that you have to become best buddies with them all or anything... just so you can see their artwork and stuff like that . They're all really nice people too, so if you happen to become friends with them, good for you . If not, oh well . Just lemme know.
Okay, two, can I suggest any web comics or other people of interest on DA for you to check out (or do you know of any that I could check out )? Lately I've gotten really interested in facilitating the spread of webcomics and artists online, and I've come across quite a few of them... good, bad, or otherwise (that's kind of up to the individual to decide, y'know ).
Oh, and I see you've been properly entertained by my signature... heh... inquisitive idiots .

manga-kat In reply to Inuyama777 [2011-07-19 05:34:26 +0000 UTC]
DA simply stands for DeviantArt, but it's shorter to type. Like if I were to say that I have a DA account, it just means that I have an account on DeviantArt... and so on and so forth . An artist on DA is commonly called a "Deviant", and pieces of artwork submitted to DA are known as "Deviations", just to throw some more terminology your way .
Anyway, here are some Deviants that I met at art camp in previous years:
Also, Madison and I have both become really good friends with . She's really nice, and fun, and easy to talk to .
As for webcomics, I'm sure you're already aware of Madison's and my obsession with Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name [link] by *vert-is-ninja but I've also found some others which include The Meek [link] (held in high regard by all who have read it) and Trying Human [link] by *IntroducingEmy (which is a comic that has aliens in it ). Some artists on here that you might want to check out include (but are not limited to) *kevinbolk , *TomPreston , *fredrin , *humon , *bigbigtruck , and probably a ton of others that I'm just not thinking of at the moment. This should keep you busy for either 5 minutes, or roughly forever... depending on exactly how serious you take it .
