“Could we ever know each other in the slightest without the arts?”
– Gabrielle Roy"Art is man's nature; nature is God's art."
- Philip James Bailey
Also:
"Entering the sphere of dispersion of the object, the womb of the distribution of forms. This is the very form of illusion, of a return to play (illudere). Going beyond an idea means negating it; going beyond a form means passing from one form to another. The first defines the critical intellectual position that is often the stance of modern painting in its contact with the world. The second describes the principle of illusion, where there is no fate for form other than form. In this sense, we need illusionists, who know that art, and painting, are illusion, in other words as far from any intellectual criticism of the world as from aesthetics proper (which always presupposes a reflective discrimination between beautiful and ugly). Who know that art is first of all a deception of the eye [un trompe-l'oeil ], a deception of life [un trompe-la-vie], just as any theory is a deception of meaning [un trompe-le-sens]. And just as painting, far from being an expressive and therefore supposedly true version of the world, consists in dressing up traps [dresser des leurres] in which the supposed reality of the world is naive enough to get caught. Just as theory does not consist in having ideas (and thus in flirting with the truth), but in setting up snares in which meaning is naive enough to get entangled."
Taken from Aesthetic Illusion/Disillusion by Jean Baudrillard

Turns around.
Points at myself in confusion.
Looks over my shoulder.
Turns back around.
'Me? Oh hey, thanks man! '

Aw, why thank you, that’s kind of you to say!
I just checked out some of your Star Wars animation stuff: sweet stuff man, keep it up!
What program are you using for the modeling/animation? I’m learning Maya at the moment, but also Unreal Engine.

For what I have been so far releasing, I'd take Google Sketchup models (some of them I've created myself), and render images of them in LuxRender. Then for some of my video uploads (one in which a TIE flies across the screen's a good example) I would take a batch of these renders, and in Adobe Flash, create an object tween to mimic an object that is moving. It's a process that takes time, but has good results . In the future my projects may incorporate work done with Maya, or other related 3d software (like Blender)

Holy ... woah, this looks gorgeous, ahhh!
Oh man, I can definitely feel the rythm of the song in this guy! Thank you SO much, I love it!
What was your thought process with this one: seeing as it was french did you go more with the music or did you end up looking up the lyrics? Did the band's name end up influencing you? Haha, I'm just curious how you approched it and would love to know more!
Good luck on the others! Can't wait to see the rest!

DeviousRaptor In reply to CobaltSunrise [2018-01-27 19:02:22 +0000 UTC]
I'm glad you like it! As for my thought process, I listened to the song a couple times with my eyes closed trying to get a feel for the rhythm and atmosphere. The beat and the guitar made me think of something that either ran or flew. I couldn't decide so I made it into both! The guitar also gave me more of a "country" vibe so I went with a painted horse. I didn't end up looking up the lyrics but the chorus of "bye bye Lou" kind of gave me a feel of sending off someone who is always leaving to adventure and explore, so I made it into a foaling Pegasus.
That's pretty much my whole thought process! I'm loving all these new songs I get to listen to!

That's really interesting! I love hearing your interpretation, it's cool to see the way you came up with the idea!
And I'm always happy to share new music, haha!
This type of folk-rock is part of a style called Néo-trad, which is basically a modernization of traditional Québec folklore music, usually with rock or electronic elements. Most songs have usually peppy beats and fun lyrics, but underlining melancolic tones. Les Cowboys Frigants, along with the band Mes Aïeux, are one of the better known Québécois bands to use this style, at time when Québec was facing difficult questions concerning its independance and its place on the global scene.
Aaand I'm rambling a bit, aren't I? Haha, my inner history nerd could go on and on, but basically, I find it's a really interesting little subgenre or music, and well, I makes me happy to be able to tell more people about it!

Happy Birthday my lovely!! I am so happy that I got paired up with you for that secret santa project. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made joining that project! Not only did I get a beautiful piece of art, I got an incredible friend! You're amazingly kind, talented, and have incredible potential!!! I am forever grateful for our long-lasting conversations, whether they were about personal experiences or ridiculous arguments about pancakes versus waffles
You have always been a great friend for years and all of your comments make me smile! I hope that this comment makes you smile as well. Have a lovely birthday and many more!!

I can't believe that the secret santa thing was so long ago already!
Gosh, I remember - I had barely been on DA for a year, so I was real nervous about joining the exchange.
I remember scrolling by maybe 6 pages of comments before finaly finding yours. I forget what is was, but I remember thinking "Hey, this person seems nice and approchable, I'll ask them!" ... and the rest is history! Truely the stars were aligned for us to meet, haha!
And aww, I did smile, like, the biggest, mushiest smile reading this; thank you SO MUCH RILEY YOU ARE SO SWEET!
I'm excited for whatever the future holds and I hope we stay close for many years to come!
